A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Worst brakes ever?

from the rear of my bike. The rotor is about .050" under spec, but looks "tired", not trashed. I never heard, or felt a thing !

I never felt, or heard a thing ! Rotor looks tired, but I've seen a lot worse !

And my Clymer manual does not contain the words "wheel bearings" !!!
Now, where was that 1000G service manual download ?????

The rear brakes on my 850 have had that appearance too, and I never heard anything from them either.

"Rear" brakes you say?

I wonder if any of my bikes have em...

I use my rear brake a lot. I don't use it for stopping though.

On my Sportsters the only reason i ever stepped on the pedal was that it was connected to the only working brake light switch. Other than that you might as well have been dragging your feet.

Harley brakes are tiny, even on modern ones.

Big huge fat hogs have smaller brakes than a 1980 GS.

I like my rear break!
Stopped on a incline and waving at the pretty girl driving the other way.
Difficult to do with one hand holding in the clutch!

Riding the rear brake while riding the clutch will so some amazing things for very low speed maneuvering. Surprisingly learned some things from a Cop on a Road King.

If you wanna be an expert slow rider, the combination is clutch, throttle and rear brake. All being feathered at the same time.

Me I like my rear brake, especially in gravel, going down steep roads, and just generally. It does have 30% of your braking power. It can make a difference. Oh yeah its good for sliding side ways too lol.:p

You know what they say. Its not the size but how ya use it.;)

Actually they're not smaller, unless a 80 has larger pads than my 82. But whatever..

On my first cross country trip, in '85 on a Trident, my leather jacket was bungeed to the back of the seat. It was hot, out by Lake Mead. The jacket got loose and wrapped up into the rear sisc. It litterally tore the caliper off, and crunched the disc up to the hub. I figured that I wasn't a rear brake user anyhow, and I didn't need it, so I kept on to Hungtington Beach, CA. I found out that I did use the rear brake. Pretty much only in parking, like at the gas station. I've never seen brakes remotely close to what yours look like. I was once dumb enough to install a brake pad backwards. The weird thing was that it took several days for it to begin to make noise. That was on a Commando.

On the triumph, the caliper mounting bolts were left in place. and the calipers broke at the center of the bolt holes. These were iron versions of the same Lockheed brakes that Kawasaki and Suzuki used on Superbikes in the day.
