Me neither, but seem OK - for now!

Got the rear wheel on and all the spacers in the correct places, but the right hand spacer was about 2.5cm too long. This seems odd, even with powdercoating it won't make that much of a difference.

I had an extra spacer, so I cut that one to size and it seems to do the trick.
Wheel is now nicely centred.

I need to find that small adjuster pin for the brake adjuster - my one is missing and the previous guys had some home-made clamp on there.

Fitted the front caliper:

And these "slash cut" superbike footpegs. Not sure if I like them or not.

That's it for now! Next job is cleaning the motor, but that will probably only happen in about 2 weeks time.

Very nice Wally! If you can't find the bit for the rear brake, it shouldn't be hard to get one made as it's a very basic design.

Not sold on those pegs either but I'm sure you'll figure something out ;)

Yip, I tried to make it out of a piece of round bar, but my drill press is a bit weak to cope with it. :p

I gotta say, you've picked AWESOME colors.

The combination of seat, frame, grips, and the grey on the rims. Great combo.

um, thanx Shwartz...

You can't really see it nicely on these pics, but it looks better in real life. :)

Got all the paint stripped off yesterday. Took paint stripper and high pressure washer to it.

Cleaned it up with some liquid sugar soap afterwards. Now I can take sump off to clean out pickup screen, check stator, check valves, etc., etc...

And then paint!

Anybody have a handy tip to remove the engine emblem, please?

On a different note: I would love to wish everybody a blessed Christmas! May the Lord's peace and grace be upon you - especially to those celebrating (especially a first) Christmas after the loss of a loved one.

Wally... when you say emblem, do you mean the ones on the stator cover and timing cover? If so, just take a lazy slide down the road... that will start pealing them off (just realised yesterday my stator cover emblem is a little loose after the off)...

I would imagine a razor blade or small flat blade would get you some leverage to start peeling them back.

Just a tip on the starter motor cover... it's not alloy so you want to hit that with some primer or something real quick before it starts getting surface rust. I had that problem with mine.

And Merry Christmas to you too :D

Hi everybody! Hope you had a peaceful and blessed Christmas! :)

Was away for the week and the break was good.

Took off the sump this evening to clean oil pick up screen and the sump from all sludge. It came off pretty easily.

Did find this in the sump though...not sure if I should be worried or not?

Putting it all back together tomorrow. :)

Nice work Wally, and if that's a rubber O ring then it shouldn't have done any damage to end up there hopefully... but a little odd to find one there for sure... it's an odd size that I don't recognise from the motor actually.

The intake O rings are larger than that I think and the O rings under the cylinders are much larger than that.

Or is that a circlip? If it's off one of the wrist pins from one of the pistons... but it looks a little too large for that, they're pretty small.

Pete, it is a metal ring, but I am unsure where it could be from...

Cleaned up and installed the new front sprocket.

Another small job done! :)

Weird... oh well let's hope it's nothing to worry about and she's all good :)

How did you get the sprocket to stop turning while torquing up the nut? I always have difficulty and get a mate to stand on the back brake while the chain's on to tighten it up.

Well, I stuck it in gear and came undone without hassles.

So I assume it wasn't done up properly previously.

It is on for now, but will be double-checked once the motor, etc is installed.

Cool, I wondered if you had any secret methods up your sleeve... I guess not... haha

Just make sure you get it torqued up nice and tight, I think I ended up around 40 lb-ft or whatever it's called... any less and I found it loosened up with use.

When I first got my 450 the nut was only held on by the lock washer and the splines on the inside of the sprocket were nearly destroyed. Fortunately the splines on the drive shaft are ok.

Rebuild the cam tensioner (thanks to Bwringer's tutorial).

Quick coat of paint and will get another one when motor gets painted.

Took valve cover and all looks OK...

...except for the circled bolts, which are loose and incorrect, based on other bolts.

And a good reason not to use silicone gasket makers:

Is that installed properly? :-k

It has been a long time since I worked on a 450, but all the other GSes I have worked on have had the large knob facing the other side. :o

.

Thanx Steve, it is wrong way around! Previous guys put it in wrong way around - hopefully no damage done...

Nice work Wally, and good pick up Steve! I thought it looked a little odd...

Cam tensioner installed correct way around:D

Checked valve clearances. Both intakes are at about 0,10mm and exhausts at 0,03mm.

Do I need to remove the current shims to determine what I should get?
(It is a first for me, so please be gentle in the explanation/bashing. :p).
