It still doesn't explain the no spark issue...

Any way... Struggling to upload video.
She runs rough and only on choke and not too much throttle.

Came home about an hour later this morning and smelled gas, then found this:

Fuel leaks out the pods, which either means carb or petcock issue...

Any ideas?

On hold for the next month as we are moving house end June, then I can clean and rebuild another set of carbs.

On the plus side, I polished the gas cap and put the front fender on:

Still have to fit chain, shifter and adjust carbs (which is a task I am postponing...).

Definitely sounds like carb work's in order Wally! Running only on choke tells me you've still got fuel varnish in the pilot circuit.

The fuel running out could be float valve related, but even then if the fuel tap is turning off properly there shouldn't be a source of fuel to flood them, so I'd say your fuel tap is dodgy...

Take the tank off and let it sit for a while, bet you get a puddle of fuel under it...

....or run a line to a catch bottle and save that fuel. I can't imagine what fuel costs there. I'd have to agree with Pete on having to use the choke, you may still have carb issues. Your running pods, did you incqease the main jets? Thanks for the link brother, I'll subscribe later so I can follow.

I haven't changed any jets yet. The plan was just to get it running and fine tune from there. It had no wiring or anything on when I started so I didn't know if it would start or not.

Or you could buy Suzuki part #26442-45000 with the associated oil seal part #26451-45000 and have a very neat genuine block off plug

Finally remembered (and had time) to upload some vids of the bike running.

This was just when I got the bike back from electrical (as shown above), so needs carb work and petcock issues to be sorted out.

Got some time over the weekend (after the house move) to take apart the extra carbs I got with the spares bike.

Somewhere along the line these guys must have thought it would be a great idea to slap some gasket maker/sealer on the float bowls instead of getting a proper gasket set...

Can't imagine how this bike must have run...

Can't get any carb dip over here - just spray. Only place I could track down sells in 25 liter quantities and it is exorbitantly expensive...

So spray it is!

WOW just about the worst carb mess I have seen! PO must have been sniffing or smoking something!

Just a heads up when you clean that up: in your second photo, that thin copper tube that sticks up on the opposite side of the float hinge, also seems to have white gunk in the little hole. Going to need some careful cleaning with a pin or similar to get that tube clean!

So you can't get carb dip at all anywhere? Have you tried a Yamaha dealer? Over here they sell Yamalube carb cleaner and it's good stuff, did mine in that and it worked like a champ.

Pete, there is a company that make the stuff. They are willing to sell my 5 liters COD @ R90/liter = R450 (about AUD50) and way to expensive for me at this stage.

I'll try Yamaha and see what I can up with.

The Berrymans B9/B12 carb dip available in USA consists 65% of methylene chloride (dichloromethane) and 30% xylene.

If you know of any laboratory chemical supply companies, try and get some methylene chloride. It can be commercial grade (does not have to be analytical grade). I just never got round to sourcing it here, because I keep on delaying my winter maintenance! I am definitely going to use that stuff when I soak my carbs. It is not flammable, but it is thought to be carcinogenic, so keep it off your skin and don't breathe too much of the fumes.

I think it is also a major ingredient of paint stripper, so take care!

Cool, so I resorted to carb spray. Found an auto parts store selling it for a 1/3 cheaper than I paid for at a store around the corner from me!

Sprayed out a second bottle, took an old toothbrush, some NT cutter blades for the tough sections and it is all gone! Even the jets.

Soaking it a bit more and have to clean off some brown stained areas, but it is stacks better! I will give it a final spray over the weekend and apply some compressed air. I also have to pick up new float bowl gaskets from Suzuki dealership.







I am happy!

Changed out the carbs yesterday (I can do this with my eyes closed by now...).

Proper carbs for the year model. Vacuum port on and works.
Swapped out petcock for another on that operates correctly.

And...she idles on her own steam with choke off!

Still a bit rough, but it is progress!

The puddles are from a slight fuel leak.

Seems to be coming from the T.



Is there a way of fixing this or is a new T required?

Tach block-off plate is on the way.

Still have to sort out master cylinder leak, adjust timing, carbs, etc then she is good to go!
