ARGH! so my shiny new electrosport stator came today and i couldn't wait to instal it, all went well, everything bolted neatly into place, changed the oil filter, filled it up and pushed start. first of all it fired up on the first turn over which i was really impressed with. and then I clamped on a voltmeter and it was reading 14.81 across the terminals, I was pumped hopped on and rode it in the beautiful mountain roads of bonny doon up in santa cruz where i now live.
BUUUT when i got back I pulled off the seat and checked again and it wasn't charging again! just slowly discharging. What gives!?! I got 0.7, 0.7, and 0.8 ohms between the output wires. the AC voltages were strange though 35V at idle but never climbed out of the 50's at 5k rpm any suggestions. also stator output vs ground = infinite ohms and all connections from the output wires are soldered together and electrical taped.
am I looking at replacing the r/r to or is there something mischievous going on..
on a side note I have a weird theory. how strong are the magnets supposed to be around the stator? because i put a pair of pliers against them and was not impressed. I ask because the PO laid it down on the stator side (gently in a parking garage, he didn't even get a bruise) but there are scratches on the stator cover. I was wondering if the impact, though fairly slight could have partially demagnatized the permanent magnets and then when the engine heats up it causes the curie effect and they loose their magnetism and poof no more charge, is this a bogus theory?
