DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Trying to settle on tires for my first bike - it's a 79 GS850.
Still up in the air on two questions:

100 or 110 front?
D404s or BT45s? Leaning towards the 45s...

I've seen a lot of positive comments re: the 45s from searching the forums. Less certain about the 404s though. Some reviews indicated that the 45s are an improvement and "if you're still running 404s" you should consider switching. Thoughts on that?

Also, if I do go with 45s: I understand that the stock config was 100/90/19, but I guess the 45s don't come in that size. Are we talking about a 10mm difference here, though? How much difference will that make? Less responsive? More grippy? I know the 110 will fit on my bike since BassCliff is using one himself...

Anyway, that's pretty much it. Sorry if this is rehashing but I'm trying to get a quick decision made as I'm dropping off the bike tonight and they'll need to order if I go with the Bridgestones.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have used both 100 and 110 tires on the front of my bike (currently a 100). You get quicker handling with the 100 (that's the most common size). The 110 feels more "planted" when I'm commuting down the freeway and takes only a little more effort when having fun in the twisties. My speedometer is spot-on accurate with the 110 tire up front but reads 4 mph fast with the 100.

As for tire reviews, if you do an "advanced" search, then search "titles only", and search for the word "tires", you will find everything you ever wanted to know about all of the members' favorite tires. Tire choice will depend greatly on your needs, riding style, budget, etc.

If those were my only two choices, I'd take the BT45.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Maybe you're thinking about it too hard?
The difference between 100 and 110 is probably going to be minimal for most people, unless you really know the feel of your bike.
(just make sure your tires match somewhat...don't get a wider tire in the front but Not in the rear)

It seems like its always hard to find the tire you want in the factory size.
I just had the same problem with the Shinko's for my 750.

I absolutely wanted the cheapest tire I could throw on there, so I had to choose a tire that was 1 size taller than stock.

But I only spent $300 on the bike....so who cares, lol.

Defiantly go with the Bridgestones .I believe the specs on the bike call for a 350-19 which converts over to a 90/90/19, and that size is not available in the 45's , I run a 100/90/19 on my 1000G with no problems and love them . At the end of the summer should have about 10,000 miles on the set that is on the bike now. When I get new I will be buying the same tires.

thanks, that seems likely. i'm brand new to motorcycles, but i've been riding mountain bikes aggressively for the past 15 years and never thought so hard about any tire i mounted.

the shop also mentioned the s11. has anyone run both the s11 and the bt45 to be able to compare them?
