    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Yoshimura cams - again

I have bought a GS1000 engine and the cams are marked "POPY" which means they are Yoshimura I think from reading previous posts. The only other mark on the ex. camshaft is a "B" stamped on the right end. Can anyone tell me how to identify them further eg. stage 1 . I have read the previous posts but must be a slow learner, so please keep replys as simple as possible. The engine also has an unidentified big bore kit and "popy" oil cooling system. Thanks for any help.

anything else distinguishing on the engine?
Straight cut gears etc?
Is it an ex race bike or engine?

The engine was bought as a complete bike. It was fitted in a Harris frame, which I think is an early one from what I have found out so far on the net. The sump bolt etc. have been drilled so I assume it has been raced at some time. I can't say much more at the moment as I have stripped the engine and put it in boxes and not had much time to look at it again.
 
You will probably have to get a dial indicator, a degree wheel, and a couple of v-blocks and check lift and duration yourself or have a quality engine shop do it.

I will need the specs for the different types of cams though.
 
At least in the '90 Yosh catalog they only listed Stage 1 cams for the GS1000. No specs though. If the pistons were from Yosh they could be Cosworth.
 
I have the cam specs for the old stage I and stage II cams but I cannot help identify what you have .

Yoshimura used more duration on the intake cam than the exhaust to increase midrange on the two valve motor . The exhaust port design and porting wizardy allowed for this w/o loss of top end power .

The race motors used cams larger than the stage II offered to the public .

On another note I have a couple of great pic of the 1000 racer but do not know how to post them since I don't go to or have a hosting site .

I would email them to anyone interested . The bike has some neat one off pieces on it to include a cool exhaust can 8)

I know for certain the mid '80s to early '90s was Cosworth. I have a set of Cosworths for my bike. They aren't Yosh Cosworths though. There is a guy close to where I live that had the Cosworth U.S. distrbutorship. He was supplying custom Cosworths for Britt Turkington when he was riding a GS750. I got my hands on a set of unused pistons. They'll be going in someday. If what you have are Cosworth the name is cast into the piston bottom.
 
I know this is an old topic...but could someone post the specs for the Yosh cams for the gs1000? Thinkin about having cams ground for my 1000 project and figure that would be a good place to start.
