A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Zinc Carb Bodies???

ok..thanks. Im trying to find videos and / or products that will clean them and leave them rather shiney.

Eastwood has a few paint products but then again so does Auto Zone. Ive wire wheeled hundreds of bodies and used the Dremel in all the small areas but they eventually dull again.

VM carb bodies are zinc. BS CV carb bodies are aluminum. Both use aluminum float bowls and tops.

The only way I've found to make them shinny is to glass bead blast. It's gotta be fresh bead, not crushed glass.

good luck with that Chuck, i have been searching for years for that miracle product.
So what alloy is it?
Does it contain lead or some other substance?

How reactive is pure zinc? Not sure what this guy is polishing but it buffs up mirrorish

I dont know what alloy it is but its not pure zinc.
Yes carbs can be buffed up and polished with aluminium polish or various other metal polishes that are available but its a tricky job on a carb.
A dremel with stainless steel wire brushes will shine them up but not the same as a polished finish.
I think what Chuck was aiming for was a dip of some sort that will not only clean the carbs but leave them looking pretty shiney as well, with no elbow grease involved.
I have tried almost everything available on the market and there is nothing i have found that achieves this.
However i have developed a product that will clean them to a clinical standard, and leave them a nice satin finish, which i use on all the carbs i refurbish.

Mohs scale
Zinc 2.5 zinc oxide 4.5
Pita burn through oxide into far softer core yah get nasty marks on the workpiece.

Chuck, Google 'zamac' or 'mazac'. Different terms either side of the Atlantic, which relate to the same alloy. Zinc, aluminium, manganese and copper.
