Just curious - how can you tell the forks themselves are from an L, and would that affect handling or stability - good or bad?

You are correct. I was going to comment on the "L" headlight, but forgot. Did not notice the forks.

The "L" forks have a leading axle. If you also install the "L" triple trees you will be OK, but if you put them in the standard "G" trees, you will decrease the trail, which will affect stability and make it rather "twitchy".

The 'G' models wheel bolt (axle shaft) attaches at the very bottom of the fork tubes. the 'L' model is placed upwards on the front of the tubes.
