    The Coronavirus Thread

    Surprise!

Since the participants seemed hell bent on making the old Coronavirus Thread a Vortex discussion I gave up and moved it into Vortex. Have at it.

In its place is this Coronavirus thread on which EVERY post will be a Coronavirus post. No tangents. No thread jacking. All Coronavirus all of the time. If you want to mention a politician or public official or agency or organization or anyone or anything else it must be tied directly to Coronavirus.

Otherwise the post will be deleted. Repeat offenders will receive one week suspensions.

You might want to give it a little different name, for anyone who uses New Posts instead of navigating through the subforum structure it will be confusing to know which thread is which.

That just happened to me. I was like hey, where'd my little green arrow go? I know I've commented on the thread before. Green arrow will be back now, no worries.

More on topic, I met a fellow today that had covid a few months ago, the delta version. His sense of taste and smell were hyper sensitized. Any salt, for instance, was so overpowering he couldn't eat.
Just thought I'd share that as I'd never heard of such a symptom.

Interesting ..... Usually I think the usual symptom is a lack of taste ..... I had a heightened sense of taste after receiving my booster shot ..... Lasted about three days ...... No reaction to salt but coffee was overpowering ......

I noticed a lack of taste, but my friends pointed out I hadn't been a sharp dresser for years, so that was all right.

A friend of mine and his wife both lost their sense of smell for nearly a year, came back suddenly. Strange.

We are a peculiar species. there are times our brains are more akin to conjurors than data processing devices.

I had such powerful experiences after a major head injury, so, to me, it clearly relates to how the brain has been affected.

I would think that should make the subject VERY important, but I have seen nothing in the media about it being explored in depth.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pfizer on Tuesday asked the U.S. to authorize extra-low doses of its COVID-19 vaccine for children under 5, potentially opening the way for the very youngest Americans to start receiving shots as early as March.

In an extraordinary move, the Food and Drug Administration had urged Pfizer and its partner BioNTech to apply earlier than the companies had planned — and before it’s settled if the youngsters will need two shots or three.

Pfizer is asking U.S. regulators to authorize extra-low doses of its COVID-19 vaccine for children under 5.

This is the kind of thing that makes a lot of parents uneasy, and untrusting. The government is trying to rush forward faster than the drug companies want to.

I tested positive for COVID-19 in late November 2021. Fully vaxxed, but my booster was only three days before exposure to some moron relations at Thanksgiving. In any case, I had extremely mild symptoms; just a bit of a sniffle for about six days, and my sense of smell vanished for a few weeks. All normal now, which I attribute to being vaccinated. My wife had been boosted two weeks before our exposure, and never did have symptoms or test positive.

However, Omicron "officially" kicked in and ramped up big-time in Indiana in early December. So I've always wondered whether I had an early case. I did have a PCR test after my home test was positive, but they didn't specify a variant.

Anyway: is there a way to test antibodies or something to find out which variant I had? I sort of assumed it was Delta since that was the dominant strain at that time.

And I suppose there's no real reason or need for this other than curiosity. But it's hard to find information on this sort of thing. Even if it is technically possible, it's likely very expensive and probably not something available unless it's part of a study or something.

Funny you say that. After my last booster, I found I couldn't taste my coffee. It was like water, so I tripled the amount of coffee grounds I use and it barely makes a difference.

Lost another guy from work today, late 40's he had been on a vent for over two weeks. His O2 level crashed and by the time they got it back stable his brain had been without too long. He passed when they turned off the vent today. RIP Korey.

We received the gov't issued 4 free covid tests in the mail the other day. We'll keep them around in case anyone feels less than healthy.

One thought though... They came in the mail on a day that was about -4 degrees F. The box they're in says they should be stored at 35.6 - 86 degrees F.

                              Hope they still work.

Edit: For you city slickers that means they sat outside in the mailbox by the road for several hours.
