Just an FYI you cannot powder coat magnesium

    Comment

The Lang Brothers at BBR (Bare Bone Rides, Inc.) finished this build in October of 2012. It started off as a fairly well weathered and stock Suzuki GS850. ...

Not mine but thought it was pretty cool!

It does not take an English wheel, but I do have the machine to turn the edge properly, and yes I do have an English wheel.

you'll get some powder folks back away from the job.
some freak about any combustion potential during curing
others claim the result is brittleness
I don't know the facts ... just used to source powdercoating in work situation, and recall the magnesium hesitation during discussions.
Be great to know the FACTS (?)

Interesting. Mine has held up great no problems at all.

It is true that solid magnesium can burn under suitable temperature conditions, but those temperatures are higher than 400 Celsius - no powder coating oven goes that high. Molten magnesium is the stuff that needs to be handled carefully, not a solid mag wheel.

Brittleness? Why do people say things like that? If anything, the magnesium alloy would be annealed and made softer. In any case, powder coating ovens don't get to high enough temperatures to cause any serious heat treatment effects.

Looks like it's running lean though. Check the blue on those headers.

Good looking bike. Cool tail lights.
What was done regarding the jetting.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

I bought it in Wisc and took it to a local honda dealer and they did a mild adjustment (Richening) because it was running lean when I got it. Not really re-jetted. I will look into getting that done this coming spring. Next month I plan to wrap the pipes (DEI - Black)

Winter is needs to hurry and get up outta here. I am ready to ride.....
