    Bike Idling With My Fuel Mixture Screws All The Way In

    Hello All,

    Need some help. I am riding a 1982 GS450t I replaced my pilot jets with OEM replacement 17.5 size from JETSRUS. When I was replacing the pilot jets I cleaned the carb really well, including all the nooks and crannies of the fuel enrichment circuit. However, I don’t know why but when my bike idles now it idles extremely rough, sounds like it is too rich. And when I screw both mixture screws all the way in on my carbs my bike still idles. So I’m assuming maybe fuel is getting passed the enrichment circuit somehow or maybe I got the wrong pilot jets. Curious to get everyone’s thoughts.

    When you spray carb cleaner through the pilot screw, and pilot jet, can you see fluid coming through the tiny holes in the wall of the carb body, near the throttle plate idle position? I'm not sure about your particular carbs, but there are two or three small holes that must be open.

      I can’t remember specifically but I’m sure I’ll be taking them out and cleaning them again. I also noticed today that my bike was only firing on one cylinder. I checked spark on my plug and it was fine. I’m wondering if a spark plug replacement might do the trick to help fix this idling issue.

        If adjusting the idle circuit screws makes no difference to the idle, then the idle circuits are not working, they are blocked.

        Your carbs need to be this clean:

          This video is good. One thing, though, the pilot circuit has a series of tiny holes that are on the carb wall adjacent to the throttle valve plate. Those holes need to be open, as well as the larger hole for the pilot hole.
