Can you get me a few more pictures of the melted connector?

the orange with a green stripe is the color I've been chasing for your #2 fuse.

Don't give up, starting the weekend of April 17th I'll be back in the area (or at least be home more often) and can swing by and try to help.

Found that the orange/green wires from the front of the harness connect to just one spot. 1 is just off hanging there, 1 is connected to the instrument panel, 1 is going to the speedo and 1 is connected to the melted connector.

I unscrewed the headlight and unplugged it. The wires coming from it are blue, green, and white.

The blue is connected to a black/white wire. The green is connected to a yellow wire, the white is connected to a white. Now these are going to wires off the old harness, NOT the harness I am trying to use.

Maybe the wiring is more messed up than thought

All the wires coming off the front of the harness I am trying to use just doesn't make sense to me when looking at all the wires on the harness taken off. Some are the same, most are not.

                  switch controls....

looking at the charred mess, it seems that on the old harness there were connectors for the switch controls. Unless the blue connector and melted white connector on the harness I am trying to use is for the switch controls.....how is that going to work? with one melted, if thats what it was for, how would that work. But in relation to where the connectors were on the old harness, the harness I am trying to use, those connectors are more upfront and not where the original connectors seem to be coming out of the charred harness.

Can you just wire the wires coming from the controls now to the harness, be it that you could figure out which wires they would go to?

I think I just confused myslef.

                  Thanks for all the help!!!

I was looking at the wiring Diagrams this morning, but I got a little side tracked.

I've been very busy with projects lately and looks like I just bought a Skunk.

I promise I'll get my head back into it as soon as I can.

I go fittle fart out there trying to match up wires, but it still makes no sense to me. Whenever you got thoughts, I'm ready!!

I had a some comments for you this morning, but the events that followed took precedent.

I have officially bought a bone stock 1978 GS1000E (skunk), clear title, owners manual and a factory shop manual for the princely sum of $125.00 (plus an undisclosed finders fee, thank's Chuck!)

where's that totally GEEKED smiley when you need one?

Passed the bike off to someone else to try and get it runnig.

BIG THANKS!! for all the help, but now its with someone who will figure it out, it's out of the garage(makes the wife happy...LOL) and I'll get it back eventually. The guy who is going to work on it will get around to it at some point, that's what will make it cheap to fix....told him no rush, just get to it when you can. He works on other bikes, he does it out of his garage, great hobby for him and makes a little extra doing it.

When I get it back I'll let you all know.
