    GS1150 / GSX1100 EFE Overcharging at Idle

Done all the quick tests and results within range and battery is good (checked with a hygrometer too). I done lots of testing on these GS electrical system, so I know my way around them.

One reading is bothering me; at idle it reads around 13.5 to 13.7 to begin with. After a few minutes it can climb to as high as 14.5 to 14.7. But as soon as you rev it up it drops back to 13.5 to 14.0 and stays in that range up to 5,000 rpm.

If I try another lead acid battery, I get the same results. If I try my Lithium Ion battery, the readings remain at the 13.5 to 13.7 range at idle.

Is this normal/OK? Going up to 14.7 at idle with the lead acid battery is a bit troubling.

Another thing I noticed is that the fuel gauge only reads 75% despite it being full and I have experience of fuel gauge readings being inaccurate when the voltage is incorrect.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm leaving on a European tour tomorrow and I'm taking the Lithium Ion battery as back up. They weigh next to nothing!

What kind/brand of r/r are you using? Have you tried a different multimeter to see if readings change?
Above 15 volts, I'd be concerned.

      Still have stock R/R (!).

Multimeter checks with back up one I have.

Sounds like a bad r/r and dirty connections.

You would think bad R/R but it works great on the Lithium Ion?

Sound like a match made for the devil (overcharging R/R and LiO battery)

Listen very carefully to posplayr. I would hate to be sitting on an overcharging Lithium Ion battery when it cooks off. You might like roasted Oysters though.

Reminds me of a line from a Christmas song "Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire". Poor Chet.
