Starter screw stuck.

Put the starter in a vice put penetrating oil on and grip the long screw with locking plyers where it runs along the body as well as turning it from the end using a back/folward motion until it comes lose.The big guy up there rides a Suzuki (this I know)

It wont budge at all though, it's in all the way and wont turn. After giving it a good soaking in penetrating oil, put the starter in a vice and use a hand impact driver to remove it1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Ah, so the other type has the screws exposed, mine are inside the body. My apologies for not specifying this sooner. The heat might do the trick. Not sure if I can soak the whole thing in penetrating oil though.

Ok, if you're using heat, use a small butane lighter style torch, not a plumbing blowlamp.
You can get quite surgical with the small ones, and you don't want to heat up the internal wiring on the coils.Dave
