Starter screw stuck.

Hi all, pulled out the starter to recondition and one of the two long screws holding it together just wont budge. Any tips would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Put the starter in a vice put penetrating oil on and grip the long screw with locking plyers where it runs along the body as well as turning it from the end using a back/folward motion until it comes lose.

It wont budge at all though, it's in all the way and wont turn. So far I just propped the starter with screw tops up, and keep putting a bit of oil around the head, hoping it would eventually make it's way down to the thread.

After giving it a good soaking in penetrating oil, put the starter in a vice and use a hand impact driver to remove it

Put the penetrating oil in 3 places, then a hand impact driver should do the trick.

Hopefully you have caught on that it's not just ordinary oil that you need, but PENETRATING oil.

Ah, so the other type has the screws exposed, mine are inside the body. My apologies for not specifying this sooner. The heat might do the trick. Not sure if I can soak the whole thing in penetrating oil though.

I found a can of PB Blaster, hopefully that will suffice.

Ok, if you're using heat, use a small butane lighter style torch, not a plumbing blowlamp.
You can get quite surgical with the small ones, and you don't want to heat up the internal wiring on the coils.

Got it, and I happen to have one as well. Still applying PB Blaster on the screw head for now, hoping it will seep through down to the thread.
