I have already got the proper springs (up-graded with a heavier spring rate for a gravitationally challenged individual), ordered the for seals, as well as proper for drivers and misc. stuff needed for the job. I do have a clymer manual but it is telling me that I only need about 5.5oz of oil in the forks. when i converted that over to ml its only about 162-163ml. Is this right? None of my buddies that ride the older inline four bikes have ever changed fork seals themselves so they are no help. Any information would be very helpful.

My factory service manual for the 1100g says 8.6oz per side. Matchless' tutorial on BikeCliff's site say 251ml per side for a 1000g which should be the same. These are with factory equipment.Last edited by Guest; 04-07-2015, 09:23 PM. -

Forget the air, step up the weight of the fork oil a bit. And yeah about 8.6oz is about right for each leg.Comment

So what is the suggested oil to use? The manual says to use atf, however, the guy at the parts store said that today's atf may be a little to harsh for the seals and he wasn't sure what the weight was. On the bright side I now know how to do my fork seals and have the proper tools to do so. Also does anyone now where I can get the brass air fitting for the top of the fork? I have a spare set of forks that need the seals done (hence whey they were free) but the brass fitting int he top of the right fork is to busted to use.Comment

Adam - I've never seen this brass top piece listed separately. It is on off the bushings. The bottom one is easily replace. You might have to get a new set of lowers.

Belray, PJ1 just to name a couple brands of fork oil. they come in different weights as well. Loose the air fittings, you don't need them.Comment
