Guest repliedOriginally posted by first timer View Postif you have the cases split and cleaned, I have been told by KG coatings to help remove all oil from the cases clean them good, then use a acetone/mek to wash the oils off. Then put the cases in the oven for 2 hours around 200 degrees or so. this will help draw more oil out of the cases then wash one more time with acetone.

No primer under my PJ1 satin either. Cleaned, scuffed, alcohol wipe & spray about 3 or 4 coats allowing them to become "tacky" in between.

Guest repliedI did my 1000 motor w/PJ1 Satin and it looks great and has had fuel spilled on it in a puddle...not a problem at all. Didn't use any primer, just cleaned & cleaned & cleaned.

I used the Duplicolor Engine enamel and engine primer. But I have since heard that the PJ1 stuff might be better stuff. Not that I'm not happy with my results. Everything turned out great, and went on great. Time will tell how the paint holds up. But the most important thing you can do is to PREP EVERYTHING PROPERLY. Everything must be perfectly clean and free of oil and dirt. That will guarantee the best results.

After dipping my carb bodies, I have then been boiling them in water. You'd be surprised how much oil is left in the water. The boiling seems to draw out any oil in the porous aluminum. We'll see how well it holds up. If it ends up looking like crap over time, I'll get the bodies powdercoated.
