I have been offered a 1398cc motor already done.

Here is what buddy has had done to it
"GSX1000SZ, lower cases bored and internally polished to increase oil flow; 1398cc Wiseco pistons...

Falicon blueprinted Supercrank including straight cut primary gears; Falicon special billet clutch basket & hub; Karata lockup clutch assembly; high flow oil pump; trans gears cut; heads reworked by S & K racing include oversized SS valves; race springs and titanium retainers; ported & polished; flows 147.08 at 10" test pressure; compression 12.5:1; Cam Motion G4 (.355/262) camshaft"

Aren't the 1000 and 1100 cases the same?? head and block??? Anyone know?

Will cost considerably more than I was going to spend on my motor ......But it is tempting. And it's done.

I've always found that doing it yourself costs more - OK so you have the satisfaction of doing it yourself, and you know what has been done, plus you can do exactly what you want.
But a second-hand engine that has already had the money thrown at it is always cheaper + it has all the bugs ironed out (hopefully!).
Only two questions I would ask myself, can I trust this seller, and can I afford it?
      If the answers yes...............
Does this engine come complete with the carbs?
Will it be suitable for the street? 1398 is a big bore for street riding, (more prone to oil leaks)
I'm sure the 1000 & 1100 blocks & cases are virtually identical. Apart from bore size obviously!

        What do you think

        ahhhhhhhh =P~

It seems like more of a drag bike engine though. The only reservation I would have about it if all else looks good is the long term reliability of such a large bore setup. But you could always sell the top end for probably at least half of what you put into buying it or more. Then just put another top end on it with an 1100 bore or so. I don't know a lot about that stuff like some here do. It just really seems like more of a whole shot engine than an everyday rider.

I think the 12,5 to 1 compression is going to cause problems on pump gas. :?

            your call,
i have a friend running a 1340ish with a giant oil cooler and a fear of traffic.

I have the same carbs as in this picture. Are the float bowls supose to be level cause mine are mounted the same way. If you drop the bowls the main jet is angle too, just opposite of the angle of the bowl. ?????

              Jake

P.S. Hey Katman if you can hear that engine run I would buy it.

So does this mean that engine is off the market, cause big tire bikes need big engines.

I had my crank checked today.......gues what?????

Yep..it's not straight. Can be fixed though for 100.00. Center is out 10 thou out.

took it to the place it was suposed to have been done was it wan't done there.

That makes it complete. the WHOLE motor is a write off.

But the rest of her sure looks great. I will post a pic later.

keep your eyes and ears open for for me.

I would like to find a complete 83 katana motor......that would be nice.

Cheers boys and girls, thanks for all the input and support and see you around the threads.

We will continue this when I find some peddles for my bike.

Best to you Katman. I hope you find a good ready to go motor for it.

                        Katman,

I am just curious, but are you sure the engine you got back from the drag racer/mechanic was your engine. You think he might have swithed your rebuildable engine with an engine he had ruined on the track?

Like I said I am just curious. I am glad you have made a decision you can live with, without stressing yourself out.

                        Good luck,
                        Billy Miles

As it turns out this guy hasn't raced for a while...and .... he only races street bikes not full bore.

I don't think it is my engine. After I complainded about the condition of the engine he gave me another set of jugs... I think they are mine.

crank was not mine, my clutch that he said was like new was replaced with one with his name on it. My cases were like new and the ones I got back had stripped threads, busted oil pump mount hole and a hole in it.
I was talking with another guy who knows and worked with him years ago and I had the engine with me. He told me he had cases with the exact damage and this other guy could of taken them years ago......I wonder??

So to answer your question... I was totally riped off.

I'm not even sure if the head I got back was mine.....

And that is why I am searching for another 82 kat engine. The only thing that isn't totally unusable are the jugs and pistons.

He told me he was puting in new seals and gaskets complete adn I found a gasket made of the cardboard backing from the big bore kit.. Can you believe that.

Anyway I am done with him and that situation and looking forward to finding the next motor so I can get started again. The bike is looking great, I am quite happy with the project results

                          cheers, katman

Hey Katman, if you're sure that the engine you got back is not yours, couldn't you verify that by checking the engine serial numbers? Do you know what the engine serial number was on the engine you took to this guy? If you don't know, I am pretty sure Suzuki Canada could tell you this if you provided them with your frame number. I could probably check it out for you if you want, I know a guy at Suzuki Canada that should be able to get this info. Let me know, I'd be glad to help out!

                                Hey Ger,

I would bet the motor is not mine.

                                Motor # GS110X 150499

I had tried at one time years ago to track a motor but couldn't find anyone who could or would find out. If you could that would be great.

I would be very intersted to find out. If you could I would also like to find out what year the 12xxxx and 13 xxxx engines were made.

Thanks. and I am still looking for a crank and head.............
