don't want to rain on your project, but you will lose ground clearance for sure.
had that set up on my GS1100E and went back to 1150 front end because of that, plus the weight factor!
the pipe actually touched the ground when 2 up,
can't deny that they look cool... 8)

I have 93 gsxr1100 usd forks on my 83 gs1100e. I've scraped pipes three times riding two up so far! Steering is very quick stability seems fine. I'm thinking of trying to extend them.

gettin lower to the ground is what it is all about. these aren't comuter shopping mall bikes. they are serious rockets for play. Lower center of gravity is our friend.

the 94 1100 shocks are the best at 30 inches for suzuki or do a zx12 conversion at 33 inches and lose nothing.

there is always a way. upgrades and conversions are an exersize in compramize. if you put go fast parts in gas mileage willl suffer.........but it doesn't stop many of us....

Happy new Year,

I've scraped the bottom of the collector on my bike on a couple of occasions. But I scraped the bottoms of exhausts with the stock suspension too. If you get the sag set up right for your weight you can keep from banging the exhaust in most cases. The couple of times I've banged the exhaust since the mods have been things that would have done the same with the stock stuff.

try and remember that when your $1000. stainless pipe hits the ground comming down from a wheelie, or better still, leaned over mid corner sparks flyin' and that grinding sound isn't your footpeg!

8O I Have 3 inches between the collector and the ground. Needless to say I avoid speed bumps like the plague. How much clearence is standard?

My stock kat has 5.5 inches to collector.

remember....zx12's ar a couple inches longer but you need some longer rear shocks to level her out.

for those interested in this conversion..... a 4 into 2 into 1 may be a good investment. you gain over 2inches with that set up.

Stainless Duplex is what I've got. Haven't ever had any problems with it scraping in corners. The collector comes together under the center of the bike so there's no way it's scraping in corners. Other than crossing speed bumps or a large ridge in the pavement the only time it's ever touched down is under hard braking over bumps in the pavement.

For people running stock 16 inch wheels the 17" GSXR wheels will help you gain some of the clearance lost to a shorter fork.

because radials have a lower profile, the switch to a 17'' will most likely give you a wider patch and better grip but no significant gain in ground clearance.i've stuck one in what use to house a 16'' (GS1150EF), the air forks will give you some leverage but unless you want your bike to look like a moto X the solution / problem i think is the pipe.

katman's suggestion: 4-2-1 is the way to go, or build a sleeper with the stock exhaust!!!

I couldn't find a 4-2-1 for an 83 gs1100e. I didn't look for too long though. Vance and Hines had a clearance sale on 4-1 super sports.

I am sorry to say I have hit a real snag with my project. The motor has come back incomplete and many things either don't fit or are missing. It is going to be some time for me to sort it out.

When I do I will post again with motor and performance updates. Thanks for all the info and input.

It's been a gas.

Sorry to hear that Rob
Was it negligence that the motor came back that way?
And if so, are they going to make it right?

My project seems to have come to a halt as well but due only to $$$
