    GS 1150 mono shock

    Hey all, posted this question last summer but never did get to it. My old 1984 has had the back mono shock shot for a few years. As i can't either find a replacement or even afford one, I pose the question as to what I can substitute for. I believe someone mentioned one from a Ducati Monster, but what year and size bike, or better yet the exact part would be great. Also looking to take off the instrument cluster now that I've stripped the bike naked. Any suggestions on what to replace that with?

    Shock off a monster 900. Non reservoir version. Can't remember years off hand.

      Yep, M900 non-reservoir. I have one on mine.

      As for instrument clusters, use Koso.

          Seems like a stock aircooled Monster would weigh a fair bit less than a stock 1150E or ES, did anyone change anything on the stock set up?

          Wouldn't a stock Monster shock age just like an 1150 does, or is it the fact that Ducati owners might have deeper pockets, and swapped the shock out when new?
          GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

            The shock is a big improvement over the stock 1150 shock, and the spring rate seems to do well on the big GS. As for finding one, look for ones that are listed with mileage and/or as take-offs.

            Otherwise, your best cost/benefit route is Hagon.

                    Your '81 GS1000 has dual shocks. They are discussing a monoshock setup for the GS1150.

                    I highly recommend Progressive or Hagon shocks for a swap out for your bike if you are on a bit of a budget. Either set can be had with proper springs for under $300. Go with Ikon if you can afford a $400ish upgrade.

                      the old shock is "shot"? what do you mean, what's shot about it?
                      you posted this a year ago and you " can't find or afford a replacement"?
                      is it time to cash in the empty beer bottles?

                          i pretty much read "ducati" and my brain flipped over to what i would really prefer to be riding/working on...a late 90's ducati 916. a sexy piece of ass on wheels. oh that single sided swingarm...

                              This shock is overpriced but this is the one you want.
                              Use the stock spacers on the bottom with the valve on the bottom facing towards the front of the bike. The adjuster rings will be on the bottom also.
                              I tried to replace these shocks on bikes with stock shocks and they are junk.
                              1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
                              1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.
