1979 GS850 won't go past 5,000 rpm
I just bought a 79 GS850, tried to go on the freeway, it wouldn't go past 5,000 rpm. It has cone air filtets on it, which I am hoping is the problem. Does anyone know if cone filters will cause it to run too lean to operate at highway speeds? Or is this something else? Carbs have been rebuilt, using stock jets.Tags: None

What he said. You will have to rejet to compensate for the added air or get a stock air box set and be done with it.Originally posted by Big T View PostYes, you're too lean:cool:GSRick

Aftermarket exhaust alone doesn't affect it enough to cause a need to rejet, both in combination would, but so does just using pods. Just using pods and not getting an aftermarket exhaust is almost pointless as you wont get the full benefit of better flow coming in, if it isn't better coming out.Originally posted by standswithabeer View Poststock exhaust?:cool:GSRick
