How fast is is your old GS?

You guys are making me want to go home and find out what the ol' girl will do. lol
Ive hit 90mph a few of times and it get there really fast. Its seems a little silly that I replaced my 82 gauges with 83 so I could have a speedometer that will read more than 85mph and yet I seldom ever push it past 85....

I know this 83 will cruise at 100mph. Have been to Santa Fe, 50 miles one way, and back in an hour.

I just drove by my starting point for that trip and checked the map for an accurate distance. It was just over 40 miles one way so an hour round trip is not unreasonable. The bike does handle 100 mph pretty well though.

I also have '83 gauges on my '82. I have a sickness...anytime I ride, (either bike), if I get on a highway, I try to get the needle as close to 100 as possible before I run out of room. There is no cure.

Anybody else care to chime in on the old single cam CB750's top speed? Several sources list it as 125.

125 for a "well tuned" cb750 sounds about right...I maxed out my 79 cbx back then factory numbers say I would've hit about 134-135mph( depending on wind direction) which probably accurate. I recall glancing down at one point seeing the needle in that vicinity, I thought I was closer to 140 but maybe not...one of my buddies rode cb750 could never match me...

in the 4 months I've only had my gs1150 to about 90mph but I get there very quickly....I know my brother the previous owner would've maxed it at some point....being in the tail end of life I'm in no hurry to end it any sooner by pegging the speedo...

I was on the #1 this past June, typically it's a busy road day and night but it was deserted that morning ... no one ahead of me for about two Ks and no one in my mirrors so no where for the police to hide, no helicopters overhead, so...I was on the CBX and gave in to the urge to twist the throttle a quick sprint up to 120mph before I backed off...it was great, I've no doubt it'll still peg the speedo...

If the opportunity presents itself again I'll do same on the GS but I've no desire to try reach it's claimed 145mph top end....

Back in 1990 or 91 when I was young and dumb and full of, well, bubble gum, I had my GS850G up to 140 on interstate 25. I had the peg on the speedo that stopped it at 85, but my buddy riding with me on an older honda CB750 said we were at 140. I can't remember what the tach said, redline or not, but it was still pulling. No fairing and I was about blown off. Speed could have been exaggerated, but it was damn fast! Is that even possible on a stock 850?
I also remember the 15 mile trip to the town just north of here took only about five minutes!

No. Redline, if you get there, is about 126 on your 850. He wasn't close to that on the CB, either.

My GS450GA must be supersonic ! Once I hit about 65 I can't hear it at all !!!

Last year I had the '83 going 115 @ 6500 rpm, that's all she had.
This year I don't know what the '82 did over 85 but the tach read 7500 and that's all she had.

While out on the interstate between Socorro and Las Cruces today, I tried to reach or at least get close to that mark I hit as a kid. Its funny how the hills we climbed as youngsters seemed so tall, and the fish we caught seemed much bigger than when were older.
This 83 climbed to 113 ish at 8500rpms. Wide open throttle and no more to give.



Maybe all the crap I'm carrying and the wind jammer slows it a bit but my other 850 could never have come close to the 140 mph I thought it did. I'm not disappointed with this bike in the least though. 200 miles in three hours this morning and it's ready to hit the road for more. I on the other hand need to stretch a bit.
