Warrant of Fitness? I presume that's a $ 70 vehicle inspection every 6 mo.?... And I thought some of our states had strict rules.

So it is pretty grimy as it as sat in a shed for years but a bit of scrubbing should refresh it. Usually the more oily gunk that is covering the engine the better protection it has had over the years.
Unfortunately I also found it was missing the Signal Generator Assembly so another order was sent off to Germany.

The Engine internals were in a much better state than expected so that was a pleasant surprise

While I waited for bits to turn up I started the removal of the 1100 engine from the bike using my trusty Gazebo frame

I have used this method previously on my 1150 and makes the job do-able for 1 person

          engine-removal1.jpg

The combination of straps, car jack, bricks & Timber got me there

              engine-removal3.jpg

While waiting for 750 engine bits to turn up I have been able to source an 1100 with no engine and the bits that are rusted or broken I generally have spares for so I am going to progress down that bike route next

I managed to pick this up on TradeMe recently. All you Americans will squeal when I tell you the price but I consider it a reasonable deal at $1700 20230226-161026.jpg

It has all the bits I required and it has valid Registration number so all I have to do is get new engine installed, A WOF and its legal.

It did come with other bits and spares

                  spares.jpg

Although it doesn't have a whole engine it did come with cylinder block, cylinder head, airboxes and it saved me a couple of hundred dollars in more orders to Germany so it effectively cost $1500

And it came with a Crankshaft

                    spares2.jpg

I think its in reasonable condition so I should be able to sell it for a few hundred dollars later on.

Many years ago, a friend who made his living in sales told me
It doesn't matter if the customer gets a good deal, what matters is the customer THINKS he got a good deal

The whole object of this part of the project is to onsell it ASAP as I already have a pristine 81 GSX1100 and I think I will make a moderate profit so I definitely think I got a good deal.
Even if I dont it doesnt matter as it keeps me occupied for long periods.

It only took an afternoon to turn it into this pile of bits

                        In-pieces1.jpg

I will now go through all the bits and see whats good, bad or needs replacing

Whichever way you go, you'll have either an extra bike, or a pile of parts to sell to offset the costs. The 750 engine looked good inside, like the PO changed the oil, and it wasn't dark brown.

A PO seemed to love the colour Red as the frame and swingarm are painted this lovely shade. I am going to strip the swingarm back to bare metal

                              20230227-171558.jpg

The frame has the red base but the black topcoat is just floating off in lots of locations so I will strip the black off, clean up the red base coat and repaint (Black)

So I stripped all the flakey paint off and gave it a quick spray with some black paint and started the re-assembley. I had another set of forks laying around so they have gone in. and the 1100 engine has gone in
