    Clutch plates

    Greg,

I wouldn't re-use those clutch plates. Spent 12 years as an automotive drivetrain technician and can tell you they won't last long if re-used. At times, even plates that looked great didn't last long after re-using on low cost repairs. The bonding that is used to adhere the friction material to the steel discs breaks down and loses its effectiveness resulting in delamination. You don't want to experience that on the road.

I'm not planning on using those clutch plate for anything. It was kind of a joke about how cheap GSR people seem to be.I've used pieces off that engine with no problems but those plates?NO!

Dont know if the water would compromise the integrity of the clutch fibers!! At a bare minimum i would investigate that before resueing them.. and be sure tp dry them real well too..maybe preheat the oven on warm setting and dry them out slowly, then resoak in oil

Looks like a good start to getting absolutely filthy. I've gotten good results with the white but not so much with the red. Haven't used the black before, I'm curious to see how it works for you. Looking forward to the before and after pics.

usually black, brown and white (in that order) are the best for aluminum. Red, isn't that jeweler's rouge?

Good stuff!! I was using a real dark grey for cutting, brown for buffing, and white for polishing. They look similar to yours as the brown seems to have a redish tinge to it.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do, but one tip is don't get your wheels and parts too hot, I think that's where I went wrong with mine.

The flash seems to have made the brown redder than it looks in person.Got some stripper for the clear coats to.When have I not entertained you with pics?

                    Your pic's are always great

Stripper is good for the clear, but I suggest doing what I did following advice from Suzuki_Don... strip, sand, then start cutting and polishing.

The bike is coming along nicely (I have to say that being the wife)! The only problem I am going to have with the bike when it is finished is the color scheme, red and black and gold pin stripes just don't work for me. Wish that someone could suggest something different he would like. Of course my choice would be obvious PURPLE!
