I'm just polishing the heads in most cases. Most of them are chrome, I think. They polish up pretty easy even with years of grime. I'm not too worried about rust as the humidity here is real low, about 12% on average.
As for break-in, I thought a few not so slow laps up the mountain to Virginia City and back down should break her in real nice.

The VM33's are finished. I decided to go all black with polished hardware. Notice the cool custom aluminum choke spools.
Sorry for the weird lighting.

Mostly all assembled. I borrowed the wheels from the Skunk until I can get an offset brake stay and use the 1150/1100 wheels.

What paint did you use on the exhaust? Make sure you cure it slowly... You want to idle it for a couple of minutes & shut it off. Do that 2 or 3 times then gradually let it go longer, 5 mins a couple of times, one ten minute blast. Let it cool between each one.
If you don't it burns it at the head pipes & it will start to flake.

Thanks for the advise. I used VHT Flameproof 2000 degree paint. I used the primer, then the black. The black is not glossy, so I followed that with the flameproof clear which shined it up a bit. The emblem is cleared over also. It was a quickie job to get the pipe on for the AMA event. If it doesn't hold up I'll sandblast it off and have it ceramic coated when I can afford to.What paint did you use on the exhaust? Make sure you cure it slowly... Here's a few sneak peeks from the AMA display at Infineon Raceway. I'll take some better pics when I have time.

I haven't even started it yet...I just put it together for the show and ran out of time. I still need to install the petcock, fuel sending unit, fuel line and the stator. The cam caps will be replaced with some finned black ones that I have. I still need to install the crash guards, too. Oh, and put some oil in it and break it in!
