Greg...Here the"fix" for that larger headlight bucket not fitting issue. Get a set of 78/79 750 headlight ears. Then get a metal BURR and ream the holes out on the 750 ears. Ream them a bit and then install the rubber grommet from the 1000 ears as a test to see if it will slip over the forks freely. If the rubber grommet is too tight, then ream a bit more out of the 750 holes till they slip over the 1000 forks ok. Now the ear will point straight forward, the turn signals will be squared up at 90 degree angles to the bike, and the bucket will slip in perfectly. Or get a 6 inch bucket and light. use the one on the left in the picture. Chuck it up in a die grinder air tool or electric drill and go to it.

Once that is done, the second issue will be that the 750 ears have the square holes at a different pitch than the 1000s are at. So this means that when you install the white piece into the ears, the male / female notches in the white piece and the turn signals will point the tuns signals up. Here how I got around that. I took the male notch off and put a dab of ABS glue on the white piece in the ears and the signal stem... Insert the signal and set the up/down pitch and let it set up.

And the white inserts are on the wrong sides of the ears..they go to the outboard side.

Thanks guys but now I need a set of 1000 headlight ears.Straightened these out but they are still to narrow,by about as much as they dogleg in.Thinking they're L ears but not chrome so makes no sense to me
Edit:looked back at post 3,the 7" is on and it's not far of.What's going on?

They are for a 6 inch light!!!! I posted how i fixed that problem on my bikes.

I'm using a set of GS850G ears on my GS1000EC. There's no noticeable difference between the 850 and 1000 ears. That should help expand the pool of available choices.

I am going to the storage unit in the AM and will take the camera and tape measure. if you fold the ears in till they are facing straight forward like they should and measure the inside youll find they are set up for the smaller light. I dont recall the exact measurement but i will take pics of the bike with the 6 inch light for reference purposes.

Yes Chuck I read your posts.I'm just trying to wrap my head around what the heck they are doing on my bike.If I'm going to get different ears I'd rather get 1000 ones.Running a bit of hacked off frustration here.Rather not be spending $$ fixing this

Youll need to get 1000 ones for the bigger bucket then. I thought i was seeing things at first but with those ears, the only way your gonna get the turn signals straight out to the sides is with a 6 incher. If you put the 7 inch in the turn signals are swept backwards at about a 30 degree or so angle. I know its hard to wrap your head around it. With the 6 inch in, theres a big gap between the top of the bucket and the guages that just doesnt quite look right. In any case, I did the mod and put the 7 inch in.

There isn't any visible difference someone would ever notice between 850~1000G ears and the correct ones for your bike.

OK are you telling me these bikes came with 6 inch head lights stock?Not 7 inchers?

Dale...what was the OEM size of the one on your bike???? Or should i say, was the configurations right on yours and what size was the light?? That pic of it at my house may show the gap at the top that i was talking about because it was taken from the side..maybe repost it so i can take a looksy.
