What was the name of that stuff you use that takes rust off of chrome and bolts and what not? I'd like to dip the few parts on this 1100G in it to get rid of it. Couldnt remember the name. Thanks!

You can get Evaporust at most auto parts stores now. It comes in gray plastic quart and gallon containers with dark red labels. It's usually near the paint and bondo.
It really does work as advertised. it doesn't stink, and it won't harm your hands, other metals, or paint. It's safe to rinse in the sink or put down the drain. It also won't hurt anything if you leave parts in the solution too long, and in fact you can use it to coat parts to keep them from rusting.

Yea, good stuff!
I love that stuff for chrome plated cast parts with a rough surface finish - gets the rust out of the low spots in the metal. Don't forget to hit the part with some sort of rust proof spray material afterward or the rust will come back.

Hey all,
I just started using this stuff, with outstanding results, I am trying to resurrect an old dirt bike my dad had in a barn for over 20 years. I removed the steel footpegs that were solid rust, and after a day or two in Evapo-rust, they came out as clean metal, before I used the evapo-rust, I tried the electrolysis, and it worked very well also. But the evapo-rust was much easier in the end. My question is, after rinsing the part off, it immediately got a flash rust, so I took it out and sprayed it with WD-40. That did the trick, but if you don't want to paint these items, what is the next best stuff to use for long term. Is a clear laquer or paint best, or if I could get my hands on some, the military use to use a coating spray, CPC, Corrosion Preventative Compound, that lasted very well. But I don't know what was in it. Any ideas as to a good clear sealer, lubricator etc..Thanks, JayComment
