tube or tubeless tyres for 1980 Suzuki's?

      Looks like you're right. I can just pick up another nut same size as other, right? nothing special about it?

      Funny, the more I try to do as much of this from home as possible, the more likely I seem to be to have to go to some store anyway. The good hardware store with the good loose hardware selection in my town is in the same plaza as NAPA.

        The nut on the old tube should/might be the same.

            Hmmm....Indeed it does. Ha....The one I measured came from a sealed package. (When I bought mine local, they only had two, so I bought them both.)

                  Got my tire remounted today onto my freshly de-corroded wheel. The valve I bought fit perfectly, only came with one nut, so I used the one from the old tube for a lock nut. The tire installation was more difficult than I thought it would be. I had the tire’s beads squeezed all around with giant zip ties as suggested by some videos. I think this actually hurt me rather than helped. As toward the end (of me swearing and sweating with the tire 3/4 of the way on), only after the last two zip ties broke, allowing one bead, then the other to slip over the rim, was I able to finally get it on. Maybe the zip tie thing works for some tires/wheels. Didn’t work for me. Found a set of 3 rim protectors and a Gallon of lube on Amazon for cheap, worth every penny. I also could not have gotten this done without the 24” tire iron I picked up at HF to supplement the 2-10” irons I already had.

                  Anyway, it’s on. I did not get the satisfying pops of the beads seating on filling with air. Even filled it to 7O psi. Then reinstalled the valve in the stem and settle it to about 50. I’ll check in another hour before mounting back on the bike, then reset to running psi. Just to check, wiping the bead area with more lube yielded no bubbles, so that’s good. If no pops, are the beads really seated? I did use an actual tire lube/bead sealer.

                      No, the beads don't usually "pop" when the bead seats on conversions. They just sort of ooze into place.

                      Weird about the number of nuts -- the Napa valve stems in my stash with the same part number look identical, but they have two nuts plus that domed washer. I just installed a couple a few weeks ago.I used a thin wrench to hold one and torque the other a bit, and applied a drop of Loctite green (low strength wicking) thread locker for that cozy belt and suspenders feeling.

                        It seems I need some humble pie .... as only now in my
                        dumb a%s ignorance do I realise I need to
                        make this conversion happen and by a valve .....

                        So its tyre off.
                        check rim. (read this thread)
                        drill rim with one of those drill bits
                        buy one of them valves
                        and new tubeless tyre .....

                          A nice pie that was.

                          Front wheel off asap (by dealer )for new tubeless avon road rider.
                          I need to convert rim !!!!!!!

                          1) remove tyre and take pic of rim (for my own benefit but will post)
                          2) need m8*16mm counterbore drill bit to convert valve hole.
                          q) this I assume to expand original hole and make nice
                          flat area for valve seat to not leak.

                          q) I am in uk. can any expert with time on his hands
                          find the drill bit on ebay or amazon - as can get that next day ?
                          I cant quite get which one to use ?

                          q) when got the drill bit it is just a simple matter
                          of drilling out hole a bit (to 8/8.35mm) and making a flat area on
                          inside of rim (16mm ish)

                          A 1/4 slice of the humble pie to anyone ....... who can help.

                              The only one I have found is


                              someone said on here this is fine bar not being
                              16mm (it is 15mm) .
                              surely the valve will fit ok on 15mm ?

                              looking at one of my wheels I seem to have a
                              tubeless valve on a wheel, which hasnt been
                              coutberbored modified.

                                Arghhh I'll stick a tube in it as it is meant to be.
                                Too much hassle p^%$&ng about.

                                My only concern was due to the massive
                                rides I do around europe ..... if I didnt
                                do this I would even think of this as a question
                                worth asking.

                                I'll carry tube sealant spray and
                                rely on the AA (break down people).
