• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

opps, not paying attention again……

not an entry for this week something unique about home town…..
but an explanation for whatszit. Last week.
pic is from 2015 , and when I posted it at that time Mr Tom tkent02 explained that is the regional air traffic control radar, regional, like this portion of the country, not like the Grand Rapids airport. And he stated the name of the region, and what area it covered, and what other regions there are, and how planes transfer from one region to another as they travel and transfer to local control as approach destination airport.
So, Tom, from Denver, knew what it was, more than I that lives 10 miles from it. But Tom is commercial pilot that has flow in Grand Rapids a few times (in fact, I meet him on occassion of him staying over on a weekend).

. . . Thanks. For this week let's do "Home Town". Something unique to where you live or used to live.

Congrats.
Good subject.
I think I’ll make a point to get GK out for local ride and find something specific to my town here. Maybe something with town name on it, maybe not.

Around here is Cassawary country. Beautifully flightless bird. So naturally the bird is, literally, a regional treasure. I live in the cassowary coast region, lots business incorporate the use the name and as we are oft to do, (generally speaking), we build monuments.

The big Cassowary.

May find something else, but here's something unique about my home town. There are several regular filming locations around New Mexico and a few studios in Albuquerque.

Didnt get out to get current pic (Welcome to Grand Haven sign on Coast Guard boat display)
So am scrambling for whatever I can find.

Several towns along Great Lakes have piers with lighthouse of some sort at a river.
But Grand Haven is one of the few that still have a catwalk, and the only one to have two lighthouses.
THe two red lighthouses and the catwalk no longer serve any function as the "Aids To Navigation" that they were. In fact the Army Corps Of Engineers has retired them decades ago, and were going to have them removed a few years ago, but a local citizens group has taken ownership along with the city.

Thought I would get out for a new pic, but too much going on. So here's an old one.
The Rusty Rail (owned by the same company I work for, and right next door) claims to be PA's largest brew pub. Don't know about that but the food is tasty and so is the beer. Worth a visit if if you're in central PA. But I better not hear of you going there without hitting me up too.:)

Built in the early 1900's as a factory that built wooden bodies for Model Ts,
