Headed to Ontario...on a Honda...yikes

Today I'm starting my lone journey to Ontario for my buddies 25th annual motorcycle party at his beautiful cottage in Tobermory Ontario on Georgian Bay.
About 4300kms to get there.....
I'm riding the 1992 Honda 1100ST that I just bought less than two weeks ago. I have personally put 200kms on it....a little scary riding an old bike with 140,000kms on it that far....but as everyone says "relax, it's a Honda"...lol
I was originally going to leave the Honda there with family so I could fly in anytime I want and have a bike to to ride but my cousin has talked me into selling it to him so he can give it to his son. So I’ll do that and fly home.
Here is my route and the bike....I'll post up dates as I go....going through the US until Ontario

That's a really super clean looking bike. It looks well cared for. You shouldn't have any problems. I've seen those bikes with twice the mileage. Ontario is so beautiful. Have a great trip!

2672 miles! That is quite a haul. Interesting country too. You guys have AAA up there? I have it, it has saved my butt a few times breaking down in east of nowhere. :)

Not AAA but my insurance coverage allows for hotels, flight home and transportation of a motorcycle.
the bike was very well cared for…timing belt done at 100k which I’m told is all these things ever need.
the bike is mint. I bought it for $1800

That's a great price. For a bike that clean, it's an exceptional price. The timing belt is the only weak point, but if it is done a little before the suggested intervals, then it's just maintenance, and not really a "problem". If it breaks, then you've got a problem. Personally, I will never own a vehicle that uses a belt for the overhead cams again. All of my cars and bikes use chains. It';s easy changing the guides. That's a great price though.

Last year I picked up a Kawasaki ZZR1200 with 3485 original miles on it. The owner was 6'4" tall, and though it fit him, and purchased it as his first bike. It scared the heck out of him, and he only drove it a few times. His friend put most of the miles on it, and it was parked and "pickled" for 10 years. He decided to sell it, had the local dealership rebuild the carbs, it has a little bit of dings here and there, but otherwise is extremely solid. I have modified it by putting my own mufflers on it, which took 40 lbs. off of the bike, lowered it 1" inch, with a "Soupy's Lowering kit" in the rear, and I am adding NISSIN calipers in the front, as they work a little better than the TOKICO calipers. A set of new Pirelli DIablo tires. I got it for $2200 bucks. A steal, as that bike with 40K gets around $400 to $5000 bucks.

There are so many excellent used bikes out there. I cannot justify buying a new bike. I couldn't afford one in any event, especially in the displacement I would want.

I still have my '83 GS750ES, which I purchased new. That has 40K miles on it and still runs strong, doesn't burn oil.

Have a great trip! :)

You're going through the city of Acme, where all the wonderful gadgets are made.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip, even if it is on a Honda. Are you going to be overnighting in the Bonner's Ferry area?

HOUSE of CANABIS!
Now I know where all that smoke was coming from!
Forest Fires? I don't think so....

Keep on riding on my friend.

Trevor, no news is good news. It seems like you're having a great time. I hope all is well, and you are really having a great trip! :)

Ok.....
So the I left on Thursday July 6th...took the 3pm ferry and crossed into Blaine Wa at 5:30...I left at this time so that I wouldn't have to cross the border in the morning when it's so busy.
I mentioned here that the steering head bearing was notched....therefore the bike wanted to wander....and was slightly unsteady in corners....when I crossed the border it became apparent to me that this might not be enjoyable or wise for that matter, to ride 6 days and 4400kms across the country...lol
I decided I would "get used to it"....and thankfully I did.
I made no motel reservations for this trip...travelling alone I decided to stop when and where I felt like stopping each day.
Because of the late start I only managed 220kms the first day and pulled in at Marble Mount Wa.....this would leave me an amazing morning riding over the Cascade mountain range.
Saw some cabins and that was it....around 7:30pm

And they even had a little dive bar....

And what a glorious morning it was....breakfast first

If this interests you let me know....it's a lot of work lol

Beautiful pictures. Well worth looking at. That's some beautiful countryside that I'd never see otherwise!! Thank You! :)

Hwy 20 through the Cascades is spectacular.....it didn't open this year until sometime in June....this is near the summit at 1669 metres

Hwy 17 near Brewster Wa

It was pretty hot on day two....I normally have breakfast and then that's it till I stop for the day....but I decided to stop for a later lunch in Wilbur Wa on hwy 2
It was here that I asked them to fill up my Toronto Maple Leafs water bottle and promptly forgot it there....lol

I wanted to stop in Bonners Ferry Idaho for the night and found this place on the outskirts of town.....nice spot. The owner was super friendly and I got their last room! Really enjoyed this place in all its log glory.

Oh and the Honda.....by this time I was regretting telling my cousin I would sell him the bike.....I have made fun of my friend's ST Honda's for years....lol...I was so impressed with this bike....so comfortable without sacrificing fun and sport riding. I could ride this thing all day..not enough O's in the word smooth!
So quite too....I am getting old. Lol
And I wanted to stare at it in my motel parking lot....which is always a good sign

Awesome room.....I did spend more in general on rooms though....it's gotten so expensive to travel since covid

Gotta get to the gym....this trip to a lot out of me...lol....I'll post more later. Cheers
