A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil filter cover differences between GS 1100 and GS 1150

John Kat

Forum Sage
I've installed a GS 1150 engine in a GS 1000 frame.
Currently, the engine has no oil cooler installed and is running with the standard GS 1100 oil filter cover.
As I'm planning to use an oil cooler, I should probably fit the GS 1150 oil filter cover except that it's no longer available...
What are the pros and cons of not doing so?

The 1150 cover has a restriction built in to force oil into the oil cooler ports and my understanding is that if using the 1100 cover the oil will simply bypass the oil cooler ports rendering the cooler as useless.

That makes sense!
Thanks for the answer.

The GS1100E oil filter cover can be easily modified to work with an oil cooler. But there are plenty of GS1150 covers out there, in barns or the greasy hands of members here, that are plug and play.

When I added a cooler to my '82 11E, a member here sold me an 1150 model, complete with lines attached and a NOS 1150 filter cover. Runs like the Antarctic now.

Sounds like a serious undertaking! If you're thinking about adding an oil cooler down the line, it makes sense you'd want the GS 1150 oil filter cover. Too bad it's hard to find these days. Maybe try reaching out to superlift customer service for some advice or alternatives? They might have some ideas or point you in the right direction, even if it's a bit out of the usual. Keeping your engine cool is key, especially with these mods.

I got my 1150 cover right here on GSR. I put up a WTB ad. It took a while, but one came through eventually. I also had feelers out on evilbay.
