If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Was handed for free a 2000 LS650…250 miles clocked…no title and no bill of sale. Long story short I picked up a non running titled 2011 650, thus swap time. Here’s the start of the madness.

That looks like fun, pretty basic machine with no complexity to get in the way. Easy to make looking good with some polish and paint if needed, enjoy!

Aren't we supposed to make one good one out of two bad ones?

Must be the new math. :drunk:

Making progress, one step forward and back again. I get to remove the seat, tank and plug again and do a valve adjustment after running it for a while.

Spent yesterday cleaning a new style carb and rebuilding a fuel valve with a bad diaphragm and O ring. Great fun, still not sure wether or not to change the engine out as well.

Well I on the third fuel valve and finally have a winner, the bike now runs on not just prime. Not getting any more leaking past the O ring or diaphragm. Starts right now and idles off choke in short time. Buttoned up and ready for a nice day…no rain dry roads..and a test ride. If all goes well will be tagged by new year.

Looks like it worked out very good Vince, good luck with the test ride. Always thought those old singles would make a great cafe style/retro racer ride. Is there enough good parts left to do that? With your tin banging talents I'm sure you could come up with something in short order.

My thought on those older singles would be to make it into a 40's or 50's style bike with a rigid tail and a springer front end. Add a "Pogo Stick" saddle on it and maybe some leather saddlebags.

All the parts are good Sandy, just that the parts off the green bike were like new so I’m using them, still might swap the engine. Don’t plan on doing much customization on the machine but do have a couple sets of retro bags. One set might go on, wonder how it will pull a trailer?

You'd be surprised how little drag a trailer puts on your bike, of course my experience is limited to a Goldwing and Yamaha XS1100. My guess is the low end torque of a big single would handle it just fine.

Before I built my own trailer, I first saw London-based couriers dragging trailers behind Kwak GT550s for one of the larger courier companies. Their bikes didn't seem too fazed by it at all.
What I found silly was the width of the trailers they were pulling, as they weren't custom made bike trailers but merely the smallest narrowest car trailers available, and were a good foot or more wider than ideal.
My own trailer is hardly wider than the handlebars, so that I can filter if I choose to, but rarely do, just in case.
Even at that, the amount of stuff I can pull is surprising.

My trailer is easily a bit more narrow than the width of my hard saddlebags, probably the smallest trailer you'll find short of going to a single wheel unit. The interior is 30"40" and a little over 18" tall. Luckily the top is quite stout and has rack to lash things down to.
