Landmark moment in music!

Just when you think it's all been done THIS happens.

Many music fans look back and name moments when someone or a group releases something groundbreaking, music so divergent from anything else that's come before it that it revolutionizes everything that comes after. THIS is one of those moments!

The mainstream favorites all stand on their own merits, no need to rehash that. Then there's the odd and eccentric, such as hearing Capt Beefhearts Trout Mask Replica or seeing Devo for the first time. Today the bar has been raised by a duo out of Quebec called Angine de Poitrine with both their music and stage presence!

They're a drummer and guitarist who plays a double neck rig with both a six string and bass guitar in one instrument, fretted in 1/4 steps instead of the typical 1/2 steps known as Microtonal. For the average listener it basically means he's able to play the notes between the standard notes, something better left heard than discussed. Along with that he uses a number of looping pedals which he uses his bare feet to control the knobs and switches.

So take the aforementioned Capt Beefheart and Devo, throw in some Robert Fripp and Les Claypool along with elements of free jazz and you start to get a description of this stuff. Utterly mind blowing! Yes, there is hope that actual humans will win the war against the A.I. machines when it comes to music. If not, these boys will mark humanities last stand.

Very interesting band. Love the creativity.

Top comment on that video "I love Slipdot" LOL

The same ten seconds repeated 500 times. it was all over the internet 10 or 15 years ago. Quite boring after the first minute.

Oh yeah, it's deceptively simple, right? Until you try to actually PLAY it!

My newest time killer is seeing reactions to hearing these guys for the first time. Not everyone likes it BUT they all seem to have a smile on their face when listening.

Give this reaction a try, it's more a technical look at how the music is structured than an esthetic commentary.

I've shared with my son who is a Jazz and music theory nerd. Likes to experiment with modes, alternate tunings, etc. I'd like to get his take.
Reminds me a bit of Mahavishnu Orchestra. I was into them for a while in the '90s. Still listen to the Inner Mounting Flame album in my helmet sometimes on long rides.

Oh, trust me, I've seen it. I've been stuck in this youtube rabbit hole since you first posted this yesterday. I can't say that I'm a fan. But for some reason, I just can't get enough of it, either.:stupid::cower:

It must strike at a deeper level, it certainly helps you understand how a person gets addicted to cable news in a similar way.

I got it on Spotify. I don't know what I'm going to do now. Maybe dance. Or twerk. Or transmutate.

I can play a guitar in a manner you could not duplicate. That doesn't mean you would want to listen to it. Shredding is nothing more than junk noise played
very quickly. This is also junk noise played very quickly. I don't listen to noise and call it music. I'm going to stick with Candy Dulfer thank you.

Fall flat to me. A bunch of got together and practiced bits and pieces, but nothing in particular. A waste of time.

I've sadly not had an instrument since leaving Branson, it'll be nice to be back in NC to enjoy stuff that's closer to the roots. In that vein you might like this gal, a 19 yr old young lady playing the music her grandparents. It doesn't get any more real than this!

Oh, it’s notfor everyone, granted. Even I have to be in a mood to listen to Mahavishnu Orch. But my helmet playlist runs from classical to Disturbed and everything in between. But I’m 54, so the glam power ballad bands of the late ‘80s hold a special place. :-\\\

Hear, hear! In a similar vein, Holst's "The Planets" was impressive from a sheer musical perspective, but Bach, Beethoven and Mozart are actually wonderful to listen to.

Going to a well respected orchestral venue is much like attending a church service, the *listening* aspect being front and center.

On the other hand there's a participatory aspect to groups such as Angine de Poitrine that invites the crowd to join in on the vibe that adds just that much more to the show. I'll never forget the farewell show of some friends of mine who had a rather influential surf punk act in Detroit, it's as if the entire venue was tuned in to each other that night.

You can't hardly describe it to someone who hasn't experienced it. My daughter, who was a student at a prominent arts academy and accomplished musician in her own right experienced it that might for the first time, quite magical!

I will agree that live experiences definitely help you connect with the artist. I can't really stand any "Van Hagar" music, but when I saw Sammy and the Wabos live... that guy can really rock and I had a new respect for his music.
