  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Look at the fairing fins on this Kat

If you are talking about the fins on either side of the headlight...I have them on mine too....my buddy that I bought the bike from said they were rare to be on there. I've really never noticed them before

Yeah I think they are the same as mine, are they not?
What do I think? Lol...well I had it out for a little spin again today...it's certainly not the most comfortable bike that's for sure. The rear suspension on mine is whipped and higher speed cornering is a bit interesting lol...but you can't argue with the attention it gets...was at a coffee shop with my wife today and it was fun watching the reactions to the Kat....young and old and a teen even grabbed a picture of it.
I'm not sure about keeping it....btw the seat latch behind the gas tank is missing...any advice on where I could find one?

I believe the fins are supposed to face outwards.
My seat latch has been missing for 33 years, but it's the part that seat tongue/flange goes into.
I just fabbed a piece of narrow PVC & couple of metal brackets that go thru the holes holding gas tank to frame.

Here is another pic of mine
 
We've observed a few over the years where the fins (we call them shark fins over here) are put on facing inwards... the front guard absolutely will hit them mid corner under hard braking like that!

In terms of the missing seat latch, it's part #45210-49301 and I was able to buy one brand new from Mick Hone over here in Australia but I note they're now NLA unfortunately, but keep an eye out for that part.

And yes, when riding a Kat, you must be prepared to spend more time stopping when filling up or at cafes etc. You will have a lot of conversations you didn't plan for!

Yep your fins are all good Trevor! Pointing out is the right way (y)

I can't say for sure if the buy/sell market is good for them here (my Kat is bike number 3 for me and I still own bike number 2) but yes I have heard the same, and there is definitely a good number of keen Katana enthusiasts over here! In September we will again have our annual "State of Origin" long weekend where a bunch of us in Queensland ride down to meet a bunch of others from New South Wales for a get together of chin wagging and fun riding all in honour of the Katana.

I've gone with YSS shocks on mine and I love 'em. I went for the middle option they have available which have compression and rebound damping adjustment as well as preload. They transformed the rear and it was like a new bike when I put them on. Far less expensive than Ohlins and better than the Ikons I have on my 450.

Funny, I have had bad shocks on a bike before but the shocks on this bike make the bike almost scary to ride lol....the cornering at speed is a "hold on wobble"... and bumps in the road leaving me still bouncing long after the ride over it...lol :)

I started with Koni's on mine but the stanchions were pitted so swapped them out for some cheapie eBay ones. They started off surprisingly good for the price but over time the springs got too soft and I had to wind the preload up but then it felt like being punch in the kidneys on the bumpy roads around here! When I had the cash I went to the YSS shocks and haven't looked back.

Oh well done!

And yep all the same GSX750S (up to '83), GSX1000S, GSX1100S Kats all use the same body parts, although there are some colour differences along the way. In '84/85 the 750 went to the pop up which is quite different.
