DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Classic cargo rack

Hi Chuck: I have a 1982 GS850G and I sure could use a good stock seat and I would like a cargo rack for it. Have you got anything along those lines that would fit? Pete

    Resurrecting a Crusty '79 GS850G - my "build" thread

'79 GS850G - Re-Born! I have recently bought a rather crusty '79 GS850G and while it isn't running just yet, I have begun to inspect it and am doing a few little tasks. This is an attempt to re-live a great time in my life when I bought a brand new leftover 1979 Suzuki GS850G. Also, we recently...

    Petcock fuel drip

Petcocks are definitely a problem - but I must agree with rphillips and Big Block - ANY leak of ANY fuel is neither normal nor acceptable. Leaks virtually never get smaller, they always grow and having gasoline spilling in your garage is always a bad thing. I contributed a post to another...

    GS850G leaking fuel at petcock.

I haven't started in on my "new to me" '79 GS850G just yet (still assembling parts - thanks Nessism !), but my old Yamaha XS650s have a fibre washer through which the petcock mounting screw goes. I always try to use a new washer each time I mount a petcock because they must fit the screw threads...

    GS850G leaking fuel at petcock.

Leaking petcocks are a real pain and the cause is usually the same - crummy quality parts regardless of which brand of bike they are on. OEM valves were much better - but it is nearly impossible to get OEM valves now. So we have to use aftermarket hardware and they simply are not made to the...

    Is the shim exchange dead?

Thanks folks - some great advice here. As for the tight valve clearances, my guess is that Suzuki was trying to keep the engines quiet and also, these late 70's GS bikes were really their first four-strokes so they were gaining experience after being a 2-stroke engine builder. I think they...

    Is the shim exchange dead?

When I had my '79 850G back in the 1980s, I religiously checked the valve clearances and over of the first 50K km (I am Canadian) all of the shims were changed. After that, the dealer told me that the clearances were unlikely to change and so I could safely just forget about it unless the bike...
