    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel Petcock interchangability for a 1983 GS1100E?

My original petcock is broken. I dont want to buy a used oem, would rather buy new. Im trying to find a quality oem or aftermarket petcock that is compatible with my 83 gs1100ed. I searched the forum but could not find the information. I did find a link in a post to a petcock that works but the website didn't exist anymore. I know Pingel is a great option but I'd like to stay under $100 if possible. Does the forum, or a member, have an interchange list? For example, I can get an oem 1983 GS450L petcock for $70, and it looks similar to mine in the picture, but i have no idea if it actually fits.

Is there list of Factory petcocks that bolt right up to an 82/83 gas tank? I would prefer a non-vacuum, but would definitely use a vacuum if one fits nicely. I dont care if its a Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki as long as the mount holes line up, it seals, and the shape doesn't hit the tank or carbs etc. I don't mind re-routing gas and vacuum lines if the barbs on the petcock aren't in original position.

Adam - What did you decide to do?

My 82 GS1100 GL needs one - and I'd prefer to have a shutoff so I could run the carbs dry and not smell up the garage after every ride.

they sell OEM spec, model/year specific replacement petcocks for 1980 and up Suzuki GS models, and at a good price. I have no personal experience but will buy from them when the time comes.

From my brief research, the '83 1100E and 1100ES share petcock 44300-49572. This one claims to fit a 1983 GS1100ES, 44mm spacing, but be sure before you buy:

However, they don't list the '83 1100E... 🤬

Another line of inquiry might be that o-ring at the base; that would at least get you to a petcock that would bolt on:
(Click "where used" to see which models this o-ring fits.)

Anyway, a good visual comparison against available petcocks for those models might get you to a petcock that works. Sometimes you can simply rotate the vacuum port on the back to another angle if needed, or replace and re-route the fuel or vacuum lines.
 
82 GS1100GL needs one???? Is it something a simple rebuild won't fix... I've not had any problems rebuilding them but have read where folks have had problems rebuilding them, but these things are so simple and very few things that can make them not work.
 
I am finding this thread interesting because my 1100EZ has been sitting in my living room with at least a half tank of (highly treated) gasoline for 5 years now. It's ON, so the remaining choices are RES and PRI.

A few years ago, I decided to mess with something that wasn't broken. I decided to try to move the petcock lever. I don't remember whether RES or PRI was my goal, but as soon as the hard to move lever moved at all, gas started leaking (gushing) from the peacock.

Back to ON solved that problem. In the '70s, my first few bikes had ON, OFF & RESERVE. I miss those days!
 
I'm more of a fan of the GS petcocks than most, yes may need refreshing every 10 or 15 yrs., but seems not a lot to ask. Rob, remember, on yours, ON is actually OFF when eng. not running. If not working as it's designed to do, your tank should have way less than a half tank by now. Also any ideas on why he's smelling gas in garage after every ride? Possibly bowl gaskets???
