Hi Carter
Not sure I understand how your pic fits in the theme? Thanks
This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.
The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.
A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.
A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.
Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.
Hi Carter
As a fellow Tennessean, you should know what my picture is.I's a little confused with both Carter's and Bob's picture
So what's it known for?Chuckanut Drive. I discovered it in 1983 when I moved to Bellingham WA.
If you need words to explain a photo, it really isn't a great photo.I guess it would be helpful if people put in a couple of words telling us what we are looking at?? Lol
Really? Come on man...did you know what Carter's photo represented? And why would I know what yours was? Mine was obviously Rambo...but was it obvious that it was in Hope BC to everyone? No....seriously man, that's your rebuttal?? Lol..If you need words to explain a photo, it really isn't a great photo.
We are a Global forum after all.I'll second the couple of words for context... I can guarantee seeing a photo of somewhere in the US or Canada with no words doesn't give me much clue considering I live upside down and in the future to you guys![]()
Try again....
One of the few places where the Great southern Cassowary lives amongst a community.
I should say the community lives amongst Cassowary's
Considered to b endangered. They have no natural enemies, farm or pig dogs, (1 dog they will fight off), plural will take them down and car strikes kill quite a few.
Here is our big Cassowary statue.

Several towns up and down the Lake Michigan coast here in Michigan have piers going out into "the big lake".
But One unique thing that Grand Haven has had is the Musical Fountain. LINKY.
In fact, when wife and I (both from Traverse City MI) were living in Cleveland (1977) and had opportunity to come to Grand Haven, and were visiting here, and we were downtown and wondered where the loud "Laurance Welk music" was comming from. We walked around the corner and were surprised by what we saw. THen wife said she had remebered visiting this with her grandparents when she was a kid. Was slow music, like waltzes, and the fountain didnt change much, maybe every 30-40 seconds another set of jets came on, or something started to oscilate. Was maybe 3 colors that didnt change much.
It was built in early 1960s.
Recently has been overhauled, so has more actions, and controls updated so that more of the effects can be individually controlled, and controlled at a faster rate. Also, anybody can register, download some software, and produce lightshows to go with thier choice of music. And , that can be submitted for selection.
THings change quicker, pulse to music.
Is hundreds of people there most every evening (show starts about 30 minutes after sunset).
ANyway, I didnt have any bike photos of it. Cuz, frankly, I am not that interested in it.
But since it is quite unique to Grand HAven I went there last night, early to get parking spot in nearby parking lot somewhat next to the vieweing stadium.
Was some Johnny Cash songs, some John Denver, some 70s and 80s rock/pop. And things changing to the sound of the music. Actaully got my interest some.
Got some shots with bike in foreground. But also boats in the channel. THen noticed that I could walk out and up to higher elevation by street for a larger overview.

CAn see bike in right corner of parking lot. Was holding monopod up against fence railing, used shutter delay. Shoulda had tripod. SOme pother shots had more intersting water fountain effects, but this shot clearer and can see bike better.
Here is a FB vidio that better shows the effects.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta happens every october. It's been said that this is the most photographed event in the world.
If you're anywhere near here in the first week of October, I highly recommend checking it out. Hundreds of balloons just floating overhead, depending on the wind, is an amazing sight. The field used to launch these balloons, which is the size of 54 football fields, is in the Rio Grande valley and has a regular low altitude breeze that takes the balloons South. At higher altitudes the wind goes North. This is called "The Box". It's a big deal to be on the field when they launch and the box is in effect, because they stay in the area for a long time. They can't all launch at once so they go in waves. The better the box effect is working, the more balloons you can get in one area.
