hey...i am on the other end...southwest corner...bennington, vt. where you at now?
i see you've got a running conversation with lucabond? paul is a great guy, has been, by far, the most helpful to this mechanical dunce. my name is tom, btw.
I've read that too, as long as your running/riding there should not be a problem but don't let it sit around with it on Pri or that could happen to your bike. In the mean time I'll ride it around some like that to work out any other bugs.
    L
you can drive on pri no problem it will just let gas flow with the motor off so if your float valves don't hold the flow you could wind up with gas in your oil. my petcock doesn't work so far no problems.
I drove the GS about 5 miles today just to see how it would act, went pretty good even though i ran it on PRI. I still want to fix either the vacuum line or petcock. I can get a new petcock for about $50 i think, I need to call my brother for a price. I don't think i should venture off too far until i get that problem resolved.
My vacuum hose goes to the third carb. I'll have to check that hose out for leaks/cracks.

I take 119 to Rindge on my way home from Fitchburg. I live at the bottom of Cathedral of the Pines on the Jaffrey side.

If the petcock is working right it will only let gas flow when the engine is running on pri it will run anytime. Thats why there is a little hose from the petcock to the #2 carb for vacume. Do you have this hose, is it hooked up ? If not it should be plugged at the carb and you would have to run on pri, chances are it doesnt work due to its age.

I just picked some up at Rocky's Ace hardware at the end of the John Fitch its for a lawn mower and clear so no guessing if you have fuel flow. I was out for a ride today I like to go up 119 then cut up NH 31 and back to 119 threw the park and home the slow way its about 25 miles nice loop
Actually, yes. The carbs seem not to be the problem. The damn fuel petcock is. Once i tried to start it after it bogged itself off and could only get it going with the Pri. on but i did not think about it at the time, Big mistake. It runs well with the petcock on Pri and once i get it running i switch it over to "on" it runs okay but eventually starts to act up some. I'm going to take this apart at some point just don't know when. I actually rode it 5-7miles a few minutes ago and it was nice to finally get on the rode with it. Do you think i should fix the petcock before the sync? I'm going to Keene NH at 12pm today, how long and what size fuel hose should i get if i were to do a sync?
    L
Have you had any luck with your carbs yet ?
My brother is a dealer for parts unlimited (anywhere from 15-30% off list) and he can get the sync gauges for a much better price than most. I've been thinking about getting them too. I've been adding items to my wish list. Let me know if/when you want the gauges and i can order them for you. I get most of my stuff, which isn't much YET, from him. He can also get get dealer prices from Suzuki. The only string is all items need to be shipped to him in northern vermont but he can then turn around and ship them to me. During the school year i can not get up there to pick anything up so it's tough. I go up during christmas so that may be a good time to get a bunch of things ordered and i can pick them up then. If/when i get the bike running well i plan on cosmetically sprucing it up.

My carbs are from an 83 so they wont help. I had to give back the sync tool today but I can reborrow it. I'm thinking of picking some gagues of my own, keep me posted, good luck
    Paul,

I did the valve adjustment already. The fuel o-rings should be here today or tuesday, b/c of the holiday. I do need to sync the carbs with the tool but i have not ordered one yet. If i ever get the thing to rode ride i would like to stop by but it will not happen for another week or so. I work at Fitchburg State as the athletic trainer and we are in preseason and they go from 8amish to 8pmish everday. My first day off in 3 wks is the 7th. When i receive the o-rings and try to clean out the broken fuel screw i will try to get it running well enough to get it on the rode. I have the VM carbs (no diaphram) which are 1979 and older. Is this the kind you have?

I don't have to be into work until 1pm tomorrow so i will work on the broken screw in the morning. Going to try the boiling method and see what kind of trouble that will get me into.

I haven't done a sync yet so i don't know how that works. I've read some about it but would be nice to have someone show me. I'll have to get some tubing (5/16"???) for the tank.

I also have 3 shims, not sure if your done with your valve adjustment. There is a post on here somewhere that says what carb each bike takes. So if our carbs are the same and you need 1 to get going I'm sure we could figure out something. Jaffery isn't to far you could take a ride over if your working on the bike this weekend. I have the o-ring set to rebuild my carbs you could have for now and when you get yours give them to me. the season is coming to and end to fast so maybe we can get you going. Ill be around most of the weekend.

Dont know if it helps, I have another set of carbs not sure if they are the same. I could only get 1 screw to move which is why I got another set. I also have the o-ring set for the carbs as I didnt use mine since I didn;t rebuild the carbs I got.We could swap if it will get you going. I have a borrowed sync tool that I will have to give back soon. You know it has to be synced with the tank off so you will need extra fuel line to connect the gas tank while its synced. You can get clear fuel line at True Value hardware for lawn mowers same stuff. What town do you live in ?

Are you able to ride the bike here ?

    Hi Mr. tas850G,

For this reason (broken zip ties, etc), I have never used the zip tie method. If you have a shop vac and a small enough hose, it is possible for you to suck out the debris from the cylinder through the spark plug hole. You can also try using some kind of long thin stick with a wad of grease on the end and try to stick the tape to it and pull it out. Or a long, thin stick with some double-sided sticky tape to try and grab the other piece of tape. Best of luck to you.
