A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

  • I got to tell you this: After 8000 mi. I finally pulled the carbs off of my 1100G. It had always bogged when I pulled out to pass, or from 4000 up to 8000 rpm. After rebuilding 2 bikes I've gotten used to the idea of pulling carbs now. I open up the fuel bowls, lo and behold I find a main jet broken off and lying at the bottom. I think it's been there since I payed a Honda Tech. to clean and rebuilt them back in 2007.
The bike is a monster now, I'm having to relearn how to speed shift it, the engine sweeps up to 9000 so fast I can't keep up! No problem passing pilgrims, and the plugs look clean and grayish. I'm getting 41-42 mpg on my joy rides, same as before.
I think the broken main jet did not become an issue until 4000 rpm, then above that the carb would run progressively more rich.
    Enjoy the heat! Bill
Brett could you read this thread (Won't start when hot-coils?) and give your opinion please?
    Thanks. Bill
I reread your description of your GS1000G's power curve. One thing that's held me back from shimming my 1100G's needles is reduction of MPG. What kind of MPG do get from your 1000G?
I'm thinking of buying a Kenda K657 for the 1100G, ($57). I have that same tire on the GS550T, it's sticky, plus it looks and behaves like a BT45. All the better because I got a BT45 on the front with plenty of miles left.
    Have great Memorial Day weekend!
I had a look at the address's of the Mich Riders and I plotted a 300 mile (or 1 day) loop that includes most of them. I'm ready when you are, but I do need a new rear tire. I have BT45's but I want to go lower priced. Avon Road riders sound sticky, Spitfires are on that XJ750 and it did slip sideways on me during a power left, but have the lowest price.
    What do you think?
Dude, I didn't see you Saturday. I got some issues with both my Yamahas. The 750 after running great, won't even start now. After a couple weeks of sitting it will not start. Sometimes I got spark, sometimes not.
Before I start buying coils, I would like to trace the problem down with surety.
Could be a bad connect at the plug cap to wires, harness to coils or funky coils.
    What you think?
I got a 550 Yamaha project too, it will not idle with out the choke on. I get no change in the idle speed when I spray starter fluid on the intake boots, problem must be inside the carbs, you think? I disassembled and dipped those carbs last winter. I did the same to my 550 Suzuki too, it runs fabulous.
    Have any thoughts? Thanks! Bill
Boy that bike looks clean! I wish I had down pipes that clean. I remember I had a hard time finding a headlight and ears for mine, I settled on a one from an 850 but it had some scuffs.
Mine is running great, the gaskets seep, but not much.
Tell me what the power curve is like. Mine has a great low end, slows around 6000 but will keep climbing to the redline, if I can twist the throttle far enough. It seems like I have to twist it until my elbow's under the handlebar.
People still want those Windjammers I'm sure you know.
I'm wantin' to go to the BCR but I have plenty of work for now, maybe to many people for me anyway. I would like to do some overnighters with a small group.
    Enjoy the bike!

Yea. I've returned. This time no political stuff, just technical. I get too worked up in that forum and there are too many good people here to do that.

    Griffin,
I am also looking for mirrors and turn signals for the same model. I have posted a thread in the parts wanted section. I am not sure exactly how the mirrors attach to the mounts so I'm not sure if they also need replacing, they look a little mangled. Any advice is appreciated.
Brett, about the Brown Co. rally, is there a camping group organized? There's too many threads search through.
Thanks for your work on the rally.
I rode Saturday afternoon for an hour, that was the first time since Thanksgiving day. We've had snow on the ground here since then. It was a shorter ride than I would have liked. I will ride Monday and Tuesday some more.
About the Colortune, it's really frustrating using the time consuming, and crude method of plug chops to tune a carb, when I know that a computerized tail pipe sensor could tell me instantly what the mixture ratio is. It's like a deaf person trying to tune a guitar by guess. At least the Colortune gives a visual indication. You should read about it at Amazon.com.
Hi Brett, I got a lot of bike carbs to tune, and I find tuning carbs really frustrating. I read about the Colortune? tool, do you own one?
    Let me know. Bill
Hi Brett, Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I would be thankful if you could answer this basic question. This is something I'm not clear on for Mikuni carbs. Does unscrewing the pilot jet screws lean out the mixture?
    Thanks. Bill

I just spent two days getting rid of a dialer worm on my machine. My antivirius would remove all the crap it downloaded, but every time you connected to the internet, it downloaded more again. I had to go digging thru the registry by hand to get it all out...fun times....LOL

besides, i just got home from work bout 3 hours ago...im wired..
    T
No...im yakin with Katman bout my 1100 beast machine...just you wait...you will have full on chub when i get it done....
Getting back to this Seca, I've found that it runs great, and starts without choke, but if I use the choke for starting, it floods. Did you richen up the carbs in any way, maybe raise the needles?
The idle mixture screws are supposed to be sealed, did you adjust them at all?
If I sell this bike, I have to account for all it's idiosyncrasies.
    Thanks, I'm puzzled.

Really no problem if another weekend is better. It's not winter yet.
