A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Spoiler Alert: MotoGP (or any other race) thread for immediate disscussion of races.

Right on one count, by a long shot... This year continues to show intriguing distribution of podiums and points among the field/manufacturers. Gotta feel for Mir, he was riding so well until Miller took him out. Even if it looked like he might well have given up third at some point anyway...

    1979 xs11

42K miles, so it's been ridden a good bit. looks to have been very well cared for though--pulled the carbs last night and one float bowl, looked almost clean enough inside to eat out of... tank is free of rust and no leaks anywhere that I see. I'll check the valve clearances and change the...

Picked this up a couple days ago--one-owner bike, garage kept its entire life. Been sitting for a couple years so needs some love to run, but I'm psyched to bring it back. IMG_2501 by Forden Photography, on Flickr

Anyone else excited about the start of MotoGP season?

Terrifying. What a ride by Oliveira too. The battles for 2nd-4th and 8th - 12th were fun to watch. Brad Binder really goosed his brother out of 8th... Sibling love! Isn't it remarkable that 1/4 of the field has a sibling in the race?

NGK B8ES spark plug replacements: Autolite or Champion?

I got some B8ES's online here--shipping from UK added about $10 for 12 plugs, as I recall. https://us.gsparkplug.com/1x-ngk-cop...b8es-2411.html Here's a useful thread from last year--it's where I got the lead for that retailer...

    Repro Seat Vendor Recommendations?

I've got to replace the grampy-style cruiser seat on my bike with an OE style--recs appreciated. Texavina keeps popping up, anyone have experience with them? https://texavina.com/1977-1979-suzuki-gs570-gs750e-gs750c-e-c-classic-motorcycle-seat-saddle-sku-z4621/ Thanks all Mike

    Exhaust port degradation...

I like that idea, hadn't considered it. Thanks. It'll have to wait until next time, as I went ahead and installed the exhaust last night.

Anyone else excited about the start of MotoGP season?

I just watched "The Road Racers" for the first time. Loved it, even the crappy resolution copy I downloaded. Sad though to acknowledge all the principals died on tracks thereafter, even if J Dunlop lasted a couple decades...

    Exhaust port degradation...

The other cylinders look fine, it's a puzzler. I'm optimistic it will seal with what's there too, though an eagle eye might note some damage to the threads upper left, which complicates that a bit--I *think I've got a decent bite on what's there, but want to chase them with a thread chasing tap...

    Exhaust port degradation...

Thanks all but there is no remaining gasket material, and there is really no question about the pitting (it's easy to feel that this is not buildup but absence of material). Pics are a little deceiving I think--wear marks on the gasket seat make it look like there is a gasket there. I...

Anyone else excited about the start of MotoGP season?

Yeah buddy! Question: why do so many people dislike Mark Marquez? I've seen him booed on the podium at a number of past races.

    Exhaust port degradation...

I pulled my exhaust for the first time yesterday, and made a couple unwelcome discoveries--first, a PO had just installed new header gaskets on top of the old ones without removing them. WTH. Here's what they looked like removed: IMG_2452 by Forden Photography, on Flickr More disturbing (and...

    Colortune--long reach adapter really necessary?

What I'm really wondering is how the long reach adapter makes a difference, since it wouldn't appear to get the actual spark any closer to the combustion chamber (or is that assumption wrong?). Any comments on using a Colortune with vs. without the adapter on a bike with long reach plugs...

    lead paint?

Tried searching the forum and web, couldn't find a clear answer whether Suzuki factory paints contained lead in the 70's. I've been wearing a cloth mask but started wondering if I should take more precautions. Thanks Mike

Tool for adjusting pilot fuel screw?

A little dental mirror is helpful to see the screw, easy to find the slot and helps me be precise on how much rotation.

second pic (other side of plug), as could only insert one in the original post.

    uneven burn on plugs--significance?

I've noticed (though haven't recorded a pattern yet) that plugs sometimes show uneven burn on one side vs. the other--example pics included. Leaking valve causing uneven combustion, perhaps? anything to be much concerned about? thanks

Perfect Idle and rev up while standing. Stutters and jerks when driving

You say the carbs were cleaned three times but don't mention settings--are you confident you have the fuel/air mixture dialed in? What are your plugs telling you? Does throttle position affect what you are experiencing? I don't know what year/carbs you have, so I'll let others with more...
