DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Frame up builders

I will suggest you talk to Byron Cox, formally of CMR Racing, now Cox Custom Fabrication. He is in Trenton, Ontario, just the other side of Toronto. He made all the frames for Team America that went to Philips Island (and probably a third of the other bikes in the big show, and sponsored the...

    Murray’s carbs

I think the allure is that Murray markets their carbs as a bolt on solution... which we all know is just stupid... except Murray has made a market of this stupidity I'll tell you the vast majority of folks today have no idea what jetting is or what it does, the vast majority think that the...

    Two bad SH775???

What does "I eventually found that each leg of my stator was pulling about 0.08 amps" mean? Stators don't PULL, they push. What is the AC output of the stator?

Left Hand Switch Controls for '79 GS1000E

I just finished rewiring this on my "C" The differences are what switches they have. The E, L, S has a manual signal cancel, the S has a passing light switch, the C has none of these. ... but I think you can swap them around. The timed signal cancel is a function of the control box.

    Oil Cooler for 82 GS1100G

Normal? Maybe a frequent occurrence, but it needs investigation. Two very common reasons for oil in the airbox is: too much oil in the crankcase or excessive blowby... both BAD. I could never wrap my head around the common scheme for adding an oil cooler to a 2 valve. Usually they take the oil...

Friction Modifiers as mentioned in the 1985 GS450GA owners manual

My 1970 Norton wants an oil change at 1200 miles, same for the 1972 Triumph, the 1973 Ducati is 1000 miles, 1974 Cb500T 1500 miles, 1979 GS1000 2000 miles All according to factory service manuals High lift cams, high seat pressure with shims and buckets KILL viscosity modifiers. Older oil had...

Friction Modifiers as mentioned in the 1985 GS450GA owners manual

Oh good ... an oil thread. SAE SF oil in 1984 wasn't synthetic. (SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers. That's a hint). If a 1984 Suzuki GS450 NEEDED synthetic oil, the manual would have stipulated synthetic oil. It did not. Synthetic oil is not new, the Nazis used lots of synth oil in...

    Exhaust temps

Exhaust gas temp is as good an indication of engine tune as a O2 sensor. Aiming a Harbour freight infra red gun at the outside of your pipes isn't giving you exhaust gas temps

Oil cooler kit for 1980 GS1000?

I betcha if you put your oil temp sensor right at the oil pump outlet you'd find much higher temps.

Oil cooler kit for 1980 GS1000?

I can't come up with any reason you would want a thermostat. Cooler oil is always a good thing, where adding complexity to your oiling system is a bad thing.

    Rear brakes not working

My personal rule when dealing with almost 50 year old vehicles that I want to drive: When there's a brake issue, and I don't know the last time someone (me) has gone through the brakes thoroughly, I go through the brakes thoroughly. The service manual will call for service and/or replacement of...

    Replacing a "Spark Unit" / "Igniter" / CDI (OKI MPS-200) on a '80 CB650

Most of those cheapo 6 pin CDI s for the Marelli scooters are AC and run directly off the stator, not rectified. The problem with "car" ignitions is they either require a distributor or the firing order is wrong. There's a Dyna 6 box that has twin ignition, NOT CHEAP.

    SH775 question

The stator is the stationary part of the alternator... or generator ... and as long as you have at least two phases of AC power (you do) a SH775 will work
