A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Polishing my motor

I?ll polish the engine on the bike, without removing anything. This is my only bike and it?s riding reason. This winter I plan to pull off the tank to have it painted and have the sending unit rebuilt. As for the engine, what do I need? I have both corded and cordless electric drills. I?ve...

    Polishing my motor

If I remove the covers, is it difficult to put the stator back on? As I understand it, the stator is held onto the cover? 1982 GS650G. If the covers are just covers without items affixed to them I'd be more confident about pulling them off.

    Polishing my motor

Will do, thanks. Is it safe to contact the gaskets behind the covers?

    Polishing my motor

Question... what?s the best way without removing engine covers from the engine to get through the clear coat to polish my aluminum cases? Should I apply a paint stripper? Or just sand through it? and how do I remove the old Suzuki round case emblems so I can install replacements?

    OEM mirrors.

But every pic I see of a GS650G has chrome, round mirrors.

    Polishing my motor

Here’s my bike as is. I want to polish up the cases without removing them. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JgPmKByAOQvW0bDhUaoMp3Xiqp7fczZQ How do I go about this? First step is removing the top clear coat? I have a corded and cordless drill, but no grinder. I’ve been thinking of...

    OEM mirrors.

I don?t think my mirrors are stock, so I?ll be looking for convex ones like you suggest. Here?s my bike. I think the OEM mirrors are supposed to be round, and chrome.

    GS850 is it worth it?

No. I paid $900 CAD ($700 USD) for a perfectly running GS650G. If it was me, and you liked the bike, I'd offer him $900 if he gets it running to a level your mechanic approves of. I tried that on my first GS650G lead, where there was an obvious hole in the exhaust and intermittent failures in...

    Pay Attention to Your Bikes

Same here in Canada. Though, with the growing use of Fentynal by heroin junkies, the issue is beginning to self correct.

Frustrated and considering selling GS650G - kinda long

If it was me, I’d cut bait now and take it to a mechanic knowledgeable on this old bikes. That will give you a bike that’s now running, that you can now fiddle and work on from the new baseline. I rode a 1960s Triumph for over a decade and after all those years of wrenching and trying to...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Thanks. I've read that some folks replace their oil sight glass with a pressure gauge.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

First ride ever on my new to me GS650G! I can't believe the differences from my 1969 Triumph. Sure, I expected more power, but the lack of vibes, smoothness, and fun factor were so much improved.

Modern Motorcycle most like a real 80's UJM ?

To me the Moto Guzzi V7 and V9 are closest to the UJM. Today's Triumph-Thailand Bonneville may originate closer to Japan than the Guzzi, but the Bonnie is liquid-cooled. Put aside its CBX-like v-twin configuration and the Guzzis with their air cooled motors, shaft drive, long flat seat, exposed...

    GPS recommendations...

I hate to sound like a dinosaur, especially as I’m only 47, but I rarely use my phone map on my bike. Instead I like the paper map, especially when I’m wandering the countryside. The problem with GPS is that you’re always the centre of the map, while with a paper map, you can find your...

Modern Motorcycle most like a real 80's UJM ?

Interesting. Of course, with 16oz of Miller Lite having 128 calories, the 30 extra calories in Guinness is a 24% caloric increase per pint.

Modern Motorcycle most like a real 80's UJM ?

American beer is mostly water, so no worries :) Now, down 2-5 Guinness (or my favourite, London Porter) a day and your GS' suspension will be tested.

USB Port, Cigarette Plug Wiring, GPS Advice?

I'm seeing some heated grips where the controller is a small thumb switch integrated with the grip and with hidden meter, rather than the large Oxford control box. https://en.ad-asahidenso.co.jp/products/motorcycles/...

USB Port, Cigarette Plug Wiring, GPS Advice?

A system like this allows you to charge via USB, and jumpstart your battery. http://www.eklipes.com/EKP-110B I'm thinking of buying of these for my "new to me" GS650G, but it might look big on the bars, especially as I want to run heated grips to, meaning the control box will also be on the...

USB Port, Cigarette Plug Wiring, GPS Advice?

Is there any risk of damaging our stators or rectifier/regulators by changing the power demands through the addition of new loads like heated grips and USB chargers? i have seem somewhere USB chargers that go straight on the battery poles, with such units also doubling as trickle chargers for...
