A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Bad petcock?

Maybe the nipple on the carb for the vacuum hose is leaking/loose?? Testing the petcock in the on position while you suck on the vacuum hose will tell you if the "new" petcock has failed... it either works, or it doesn't.

    brake to drag the wheel

Looks normal to me. After you put some miles(km) on the pads should settle in. When you cleaned the MC, did you make sure the relief hole was not clogged? Smaller hole in the MC closer to the brake line. If it still drags after some miles(km), then I would look at the seal inside the caliper...

    Pic of the week game

I'll vote for storm 64 - That was the first total solar eclipse I've witnessed and thought it was quite amazing.

    GS550L TSCC Ticking

I saw the air intake clamp rattling around when you hit the throttle also.

what did you wrench on today??

Was running great since December when I finished rebuilding my carburetors. Didn't get many miles on it, as I have been working on other things. Had put in some Seafoam to the gas tank a while back and now it won't idle anymore. I think I got some sludge from the tank to go through. So.... carbs...

    Vibrations

Might want to check the final drive hub on the rear wheel also. Splines may be worn and only vibrating at certain speeds.

    Stuck clutch - oil issue?

Perhaps it was slipping on your last ride and overheated.. causing plates to warp?? Agree with Ed to take a look inside if it is not related to your clutch cable.

Choke Cable Replacement - Steering Stem

The new one is all plastic.

Choke Cable Replacement - Steering Stem

Just closing the loop. It was just a part of the choke (starter) cable assembly and came out fairly easy with a twist from some pliers. Glad I put the PB Blaster on it, was a bit rusty in there. The "adapter" and the knurled ring on the original are both metal.

    High Headwinds Stutter

I found a used one on eBay. Wasn’t perfect, but the bottom seal was in tact. I have the old one if you want some better photos or measurements. PM me if interested.

Choke Cable Replacement - Steering Stem

Hey all... 1980 GS850GL I have the choke cable with a pull knob that comes up through the center of the steering stem. I ordered the replacement OEM cable (58400-45110) and looks to be the correct part, although a little different. The new one is all plastic including the larger threads that...

    78 GS1000 rectifier/regulator wiring

Your GS has a 3 phase stator/generator. You will need a 3 phase regulator whether you use the "headlight loop" or not. Eliminating that loop only gets rid of some possible bad connections that you don't need in that loop that essentially goes no where. It does not reduce the number of phases on...

    Pic of the week game

A year ago we were cleaning out our garage to host my oldest son's graduation party. My 1980 GS850GL had been quietly resting in the front of the garage for about 7 years. The wife was on a terror to get rid of things... including the motorcycle. We pushed it to the back yard for the party and I...

    High Headwinds Stutter

Looks like that airbox should have a "snorkel" on the back. Don't see a separate part number for it. I had to find a decent used one for my GS850GL as the seal around the bottom hole was all blown out. Not having that could definitely affect the air turbidity. It does close that hole at the...

Friendly reminder. Don't forget to flush........

Just saw a post this morning of a "home made" one just using a garden hose Y adapter with 1/4 turn valves. Added a garden hose-to-Schrader valve adapter on one side. Air doesn't go in at the straight angle as it does on this one, but I assume it would work just the same.

    High Headwinds Stutter

There are two vent "Tees" higher up on the carbs between 1-2 and 3-4 that should have a length of tube on them running over the airbox and down. Might not be your problem.. but worth a shot. Parts 75 & 76 on the parts fiche linked below...

    GS engine noise.

I'd say if it doesn't do it on the center stand, then look at the front wheel. Speedo like previously mentioned seems likely. Maybe wheel bearing.

    Pic of the week game

I was just in Charleston, SC, the first weekend in April for my son's graduation for the first part of Navy A-School in the nuclear program. We visited Middleton Place, an old plantation with beautifully kept/restored gardens. On the property is a 1000+ year old live oak tree with a plaque from...

Mikuni carbs fuel transfer tubes leaking GS 750

Might find a NOS one on eBay, just search the part number. Keyster (and others) make brass/aluminum ones that accepts o-rings, will probably come up on a part number search in eBay.
