Pic of the week game

Did you ever see a dog rolling in the dirt?
That's what Scott's motorcycle is doing.
And, right out of the camera's view, Scott is doing the same thing! :)

Another vote for Marvinsc!

I gotta vote for Mr Baatfam. I think it's interesting how many of us old gs guys have bmw now.

Good morning fine folks of the GS Resource. It's Saturday morning, let's count the votes.
There were 10 entries and 9 votes.

Baatfam, one vote

Grimly two votes

And the big winner...... Receiving SIX votes...
MARVINSC! Great job Scott. Tell us a little about the picture.
Also, you get the privilege to come up with next weeks theme!

Now let's get out there and wash some motorcycles! :)

Thanks folks! A little about the picture. We were at The Land Between the Lakes riding the backroads and the particular road had a huge mudhole that the Jeep guys has made really deep. The Forestry service took a bulldozer and cut a new path around it. It has rained a lot that week and I hit a rut made by the dozer and a mud nap was the result. It is supposed to be nice here today, I will get out after while to try to get a new shot for next week's subject. Stand by............

The theme this week is "Historical". It can be a marker, Statue, Monument or something else. This historical marker tells the story of the one caution light community of Lynnville KY a few miles down the road from me.

Gee, It used to be that "history" was about stuff I otherwise had no familiarity.
But, somehow, now "history" includes events that I recall.

Historic because it's old.
The Comfort Maple could be the oldest maple tree in North America.
Estimates have it being 500 years old.

True...I sitting in our living room watching TV when the embassy takeover was announced.
Shortly after that, the phone rang, and it was a ready response call. (82nd airborne)
So I was in my car heading to base shortly after.
We geared up and sat at the airfield waiting to go for several hours.
We didn't go, but it was the one time when I thought we would....crazy.

Wow, I had to take a closer look; this old tree is definitely hanging on thanks to some human help.

Maples in this area of Vermont often begin to rot out once they reach around 150 years, not the best soil. We had to take down four of them on my property, all well over that age (150-200). They had become a liability; too close to the house and to the cemetery next door. The plots most at risk were those of Civil War veterans. It’s humbling to realize how many men from Brandon, Vermont gave their lives in that conflict, many from the 2nd and 3rd Vermont regiments.

A friend of mine is also taking down a sugar maple in his sugar bush up in Fletcher, Vermont. It finally gave up over the winter, far more than 200 years old. He has some that he thinks are closer to 300 years old.

I think I know where I want to take today’s photo. Hoping to sneak out early and grab the shot!

Thanks for sharing the Comfort Maple with us, Mr. Murdoch! I truly love Maples, they are so beautiful when they are given the opportunity to crown out.

The Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island is BC's oldest Provincial Park.
Strathcona Provincial Park is the oldest provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, and the largest on Vancouver Island. Founded in 1911, the park was named for Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, a wealthy philanthropist and railway pioneer.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP]: 256 [/SUP] It lies within the Strathcona Regional District. The Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve, established in 2000, includes three watersheds in the western area of the park.[SUP][3][/SUP]

I was just in Charleston, SC, the first weekend in April for my son's graduation for the first part of Navy A-School in the nuclear program. We visited Middleton Place, an old plantation with beautifully kept/restored gardens. On the property is a 1000+ year old live oak tree with a plaque from the National Arborist Association. Was very surreal touching a living tree that had seen so much history. I had taken some photos on my phone, but alas I cannot find the ones I took of this tree. They were very similar to the ones on the link below.

American Airlines wouldn't let me take my motorcycle as a carry-on...

Medora Brick Plant. Is about 15 miles east of Bedford IN
Was in operation Something like 1905 till 1975
Recent years has been some effort to make into historical site or park or something. Can find info on it without too much effort.

THat was 2019. This photo is Significant history to me (I know, not included in the photo) because less than an hour later I was laid out in the road for I-dont-know-how-long. But we dont need to encumber the photo game with discussion of that.
