A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    '83 550es vibration/noise, all rpms

The vibration and noise is there on the centre stand, moreso after it has been ridden for awhile, but still a good suggestion to check as they could be contributing to the felt vibration at speed.

    '83 550es vibration/noise, all rpms

That's the way I was leaning. Thanks for the suggestion, T. Prospective buyer was thinking potentially rod knock, but it just doesn't seem like it to me

    '83 550es vibration/noise, all rpms

I am selling the 550es and both prospective buyer and I noticed a new noise and vibration. Backstory. I bought this bike number of years ago as a loaner for my brother. We took it for a small tour and have put less than 1000 miles on it since purchased. It has been sitting for a long time, but...

    GS650G vs GS650L Exhaust Fit

Looking a little worse for wear as they have been sitting apart. I forgot they were Chinese knockoffs, and the silencers are seaparate pieces from the header. I had them apart trying to solve a leak at the same time as I was trying to fit them to the G. Our official out of the house date is...

    GS650G vs GS650L Exhaust Fit

I briefly toyed with the idea, but couldn't come up with a suitable solution from the bits 'n bobs in my garage, but yes, you could probably work something out. Are you still in the LM, or did you complete the move? I still have those pipes I got. They are currently sitting outside my garage...

    GS650G vs GS650L Exhaust Fit

Cant speak to the '82 specifically, but I received a set of L pipes when they were advertised as G, and they did not work on my '83. The mounts were in slightly different places.

Standard practice in my household, too (minus the bourbon)

    GS650G - Choke/Starter Cable Obsolete

Ouch on pricing for shipping...that's taking it somewhere very uncomfortable. I tried to get a couple of battery terminal brackets shipped over from Wemoto, and it was the same issue. Fixed shipping price and unable to alter the method to make the purchase worth it.

GS650G Katana - colour of engine covers (clutch, pickups, alternator)

I know the colour cast to which you are referring, but I'm pretty positive that, in Canada at least, the case covers were just aluminum as in the image steveb922 posted. Here is a comparison between the models: http://www.suzukicycles.org/GS-series/GS650.shtml

    If not jetting, then what?

The one solvent that made the old carb cleaners better, and one that not everyone can get their hands on is Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). Fibreglassers know this stuff. MEK also makes a great paint/powder coat stripper. You don't even need that much in your dip, probably 2-5% by volume. Be...

    83 750ES tuning/odd idle

The surge seems like a vacuum disturbance. It has a somewhat regular rhythm, so that makes me think about the vacuum diaphragm. It could be bringing in too much fuel to #2 carb, causing it to cut out. Have you checked the petcock to see if it is functioning properly?

    New Dude

Wow! Is that your current stable? That's a great collection of bikes. SoCal is a wonderful locale for riding (once you get out of the city, at least) Welcome to the forum. Now, about pictures; do you use an image hosting service? It's the easiest way to post multiple, full-size images.

Bike quit while running harder then normal

I've experienced this on my 650 as well. Thought it was a fuel level issue (perhaps getting near reserve) but I would put in nowhere near half a tank worth of gas when filling up.

High rev cut out under load.

You are speaking in past tense so I'm hoping you got it sorted out. If so, what was the problem and solution in your case?

    If not jetting, then what?

I agree with LAB3. Blasting the carbs with aerosol is great for finishing them up, but isn't a true substitute for a 24h carb dip. Ultrasonic isn't necessary either, unless you've got some long-standing issue. If that was the case, you'd see far worse performance than described. Still, if you...

High rev cut out under load.

So filter = air filter When you say the engine "cuts out", are you experiencing a complete engine shut off, or just a drop in power delivery to the wheel?

    Battery Boiled Over

Yes, they are a credible business, and I have bought wiring parts from them in the past, but you can do much better in terms of $$$ spent by looking for a used RR rather than going for Roadster's package. I'd listen to Nessism on this point.

    If not jetting, then what?

I don't want to beat on the "clean carbs" drum too much, but I understand your phrase "every nook and cranny" meaning the visible parts of the carburetor. Can you set us at ease and describe exactly what you are doing to clean the carbs?
