A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cable Tie method of replacing valve shims

You're turning it with a wrench by hand Sandy, not with the starter motor.

Cable Tie method of replacing valve shims

Not a single drop actually. You're not moving a whole lot of oil with those crank turns.

Cable Tie method of replacing valve shims

I always turn the crank to release the zip tie to avoid dislodging material from the valve and/or losing a piece of the zip tie into the engine.

    Volt meter recommendations

I'd probably elect to wire it to a switched source otherwise I'd be measuring voltage 24/7.

    Volt meter recommendations

Wow guys, very cool! I've got several things fighting for space on my little Euro bars, but maybe I will put a Show Chrome on the way shown. Years ago Dennis Kirk sold a voltage warning light that looked like a good solution, it indicated 3 or 4 voltage states and could be tucked almost anywhere...

    Maxxis Hi-Max, a year on.

Thumpin' Thread Rez, Batman! I missed this one the first time around. I ran Maxxis ProMaxx tires until they became unavailable. They were solid tires despite the horrible reputation that Cheng $hit had 20 years ago. The Maxxis line was new when I tried them, but they had some pretty good reviews...

    Are Uggs proper motorcycle footwear?

I think just about all the bases have been covered here. To me they're just a ghastly fashion choice no matter the occasion.

    Been a while!

Okay I spotted this bike in the 'L' thread, for the life of me I can't figure out what moved me to look in there, maybe I'm more of an 'L' fan than I thought. As I said on the other thread, I am a previous owner of this bike, it was owned by at least one other member before it got to you, a...

    Let's See Those L's!!! [GS***L Picture Thread]

HEY I know that bike! That was my bike a skazillion years ago! Nice to see it still alive and kicking. I like the bars you put on it. I'd put some shorter bars on it but the guy I gave it to put the buckhorns back on it.

    Top 10 Newbie Mistakes

What you might do is make sure it has some oil in it, pull all the plug wires and see if the engine will crank. If it does then do a compression check. If the engine cranks and has good compression everything else is a slam dunk. Best not to run the engine until you sort out all of the basics...

Well that's not groovy, and I certainly won't argue with your last statement. Anyone that rides a GS is better off for the improvements he's made.

    Stator papers

You guys didn't start it, it's an old issue apparently. I didn't really want to get that far into it, but one thing led to another, as it often does. Good luck with your project Jimbo, I'm sure you'll find the info you need.

    Stator papers

I'm taking no liberties whatsoever, I'm trying to understand why you have an apparent axe to grind. The word I used, 'descry', means to detect or to see something. I used the word referencing the relationship between Electrex and GSR, not the product in question. Okay so, and I'm sure I could...

    Stator papers

When the Stator Pages was first published, was the shunt vs. series issue widely known? I get the idea that when Electrex started selling, going to another shunt R/R was the best option that was generally known about. I don't see how you can justify slamming them for selling it, unless it was...

    Stator papers

Right, as I said I went over there after I posted and it's still under construction. You can follow Posplayer's link and find some good info though, he knows what he's talking about, irascibility notwithstanding. He has improved diagnostic info available.

He's a little more than 'slightly irritated'... I get that there are better options and info out there now, and that change around here is a long time coming. That seems a bit over the top though.

    Stator papers

Ouch I just went there and that part is still 'under development'. I guess Frank is still in the midst of revamping the site. I wonder if there's a PDF somewhere?
