A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

That tank looks awesome! I like the subtle changes in color.

    750 Katana Resurrection

I've had to walk away more times then I want to admit. It's all you can do until it dries thoroughly. As Steve mentioned, way better then hitting the floor, although not much solace, I'm sure. Your repair looks good, and I like the red Suzuki letters. They go better with your stripe design...

Ohhhhh..duh, Larry. Flat "back"..ha ha..I guess I should pay closer attention to what I'm reading. :)

    750 Katana Resurrection

The paint job is looking real nice. Out of curiosity, may I ask what your use of flat black will be before the decals and the addition of clear coats? If waiting more then 24 hrs. between base coats and clear, you might consider scuffing the base coats lightly with some 600 just to be on the...

    1982 gs1100e

I love doing bikes that are mechanically solid and require a cosmetic rescue. It's so much fun and relatively in-expensive. Paint and tires are probably biggest investments. I'll be following along for sure.

    Primer color?

I think if it were me, I'd spray a light grey primer then spray a base coat of solid red as close to the micro-flake red color that's in the can. It'll take very few coats to cover that way, followed by the clear coats.

    1983 GS 1100 E goes for

That GS1100E was gorgeous. We sometimes forget what 6 grand buys you these days. Not much. Mostly unrestored and with only one owner..that's rare in itself. Nice to see these Suzukis bringing in some premium prices.

    1979 550 Cafe Racer Build

The old school Suzuki tank emblems with the wings on both sides of the factory "S" would look cool on that tank.

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

Beautiful GS, for sure. May I ask what's hidden under the blue car cover..? Curious motorheads need to know..:D

    One of the last pieces

Wow. Seriously. Wow! That's an amazing skill set you have.

    Can this be done?

If you plan to use a polyurethane clear, like a can of 2k or with a gun, there really isn't a way to blend it. It basically "wraps" a paint job. There will always be a dry line if not sprayed completely. I would scuff the entire surface of the tank (stay away from the stripes) with 800 wet...

    Gs450 scrambler project

Not very many people, even a lot of pros don't paint the underside of a gas tank. I've never understood that. Well done.

    GSX1100EFE Rebuild

I feel your pain. I've spent hours laying out stripes only to need 10 minutes or less to spray them. It's worth the effort, though. Not..having them line up..looks like crap and has to be re-done. Your paint job is looking real nice so far. Well done.

May I ask what size and the kind of tires you're using? They look like they would work really well. I need a new pair for my S.

    R.I.P Wes Cooley

That's really sad. It's his riding and his style that after seeing him racing back in the early 80's that made me..a dyed in the wool Honda lover..covet the blue and white '79 GS1000S. It took me 30 years to find one, and I'll ride it in his memory whenever I can.

Green is a color that doesn't get used very often it seems. That's a pretty shade. Nicely done.

    Suzuki GS1000CS Dunstall

That would be my suggestion, too. I'll bet the Honda seat is really close to the Suzuki's..especially the tail section.

    I hate polishing aluminum..but..

You're right, Chuck, If I did this more often, I would spring for the right tools and compounds. As it is, an embarrassing amount of time and effort to get these valve covers nice again. Ready for polishing with rubbing compound and Mother's Mag polish. After 3 steps of polishing, they...

    I hate polishing aluminum..but..

I would go your way in a heartbeat, Ed. I just don't have the motor, polishing wheels, and compounds that would make it so much easier. Right tool for the right job they say. I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to doing things by hand. They should polish right up with very little...

Getting away from polishing was one of the main reasons I painted all the aluminum parts on my bike, black...;)
