A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS650 Valve Adjustment Feeler Gauge Question

Yours might be factory shims. It's just possible that they were installed numbers up so the cam lobe wore them down. They're not necessarily "X" shims either. The picture I posted shows the discrepancy on a lot of my shims. It also shows that one had no numbers, so when last adjusted (or...

    Metzeler Lasertec Front Tire

I was referring to the BT-45's but I believe you're right about bluewool. The Metzelers do have a retro look now that I see them again. My front BT-45 looks old school but the back one looks modern. WTH?

    Metzeler Lasertec Front Tire

They've served me well so far even when pushed a bit. If my front were any wider, it might not look so bad. I'll try the RoadRiders or Sport Demons next time though.

    Metzeler Lasertec Front Tire

Can't help you with you query either but I run the BT-45's. No problem with cracking but I should replace my front tire too because it's so ugly.

GS650 Valve Adjustment Feeler Gauge Question

The "X" shims were only available from Suzuki, you can not order them from any source, including Suzuki. I believe the GSR Shim Club has a selection of X shims, you would have to contact ghostgs1 to verify. . Yeah, what I was trying to tell the O.P. was that the necessity was for a 2.72...

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

The bike was idling perfectly then just quit. I had zero spark, all four. I verified that my wiring was good from signal generator to ignitor, then to coils. Signal generator was within specified resistance so I narrowed the problem down to the ignitor.

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

If your stock ignition is good, no need to upgrade. As long as you're getting the spark signal and have good spark energy with your coils/wires then save your money for now. I got the Dyna-S when my ignitor croaked. There's no telling if this will ever happen to you. Since I had plenty to...

GS650 Valve Adjustment Feeler Gauge Question

Your feeler gauges have some weird numbers on them but it appears to be precise metric if you can fit the .0387 and next one up under your shims. A .0387 inch feeler gauge probably wouldn't fit under your lobes even if the cams weren't in the correct position. Most feeler gauges will be...

    New tires

Good choice Rob. I will probably go with the Pirelli Sport Demons or Avon Roadriders next because research points me to those options and the advice here does too. I have Battlax BT-45's on mine now. They have performed good enough including some wet cornering and hard braking. The wear is...

    Race tech .90 fork springs

It might be just fine for you and better than your old stuff even without any added air pressure. My setup will be quite stiff and your bike really isn't that much heavier.

    Race tech .90 fork springs

I'm getting .90 spring rate for my 550 and about the same weight geared up, maybe a shade less. I want a good firm ride. I'd think it'd be too soft for your bike.

    No shim clearance, now what...

It doesn't seem right that not even one is in spec with 26K. Don't most of these engines usually start with 2.75 / 80 shims? It almost sounds like the valves have been adjusted before. Mr. Mom, what is the next increment in your feeler gauges? It should definitely be .03mm if your set has as...

    Sonic vs Racetech fork springs

LOL......I'm only 160 but am one click away from ordering some Sonics because I like to think of myself as a "hard charger." I love this term. I tell my riding friends that I will go slow until I see a turn. At that point I accelerate toward it, brake good, and apex that beauty. I will just...

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

This is correct. You would carefully stuff the bare end on your old coils and epoxy in, leaving the coil ends in the package. It's easy to cut and crimp. You could get by with vise grips, pliers to crimp although a good crimper is handy to have and only $10 at HF for a decent ratcheting one.

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

Nope. They snap on like they would for any car with a distributor cap, easy as can be. I did have to shim the Dynas a bit to move the boots away from the frame tabs when mounting them but no big deal. You might not have to. A treat for sure. The spark energy is probably better than you'd...

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

Those wires are correct. Don't forget they come in different colors...:D Measure the coil secondary resistance by attaching your multimeter to both plug leads either on the bike or off. Set meter to read at least 20K ohms. I would think they should be between 15-20K ohms. Check your spark...

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

If you exposed clean wire on the plug end, check the coil resistance. If they're within spec and the insulation on the wire looks good, buy brand new caps. If the insulation is shot, try replacing the wires. Chip the epoxy away, insert the new wires and seal it with fresh epoxy. There are...

    Idiot of the Week award...

Nice work Brendan. I'd say student of the week instead. You took Posplayr's short statement and researched your charging system thoroughly it seems. The charger installation caused no problems. I'd be upset but only for a moment. When something goes wrong because of my error (or not the...
