A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Old Bike, new rider, same ol' problems - 1980 GS550E

"and it might be that i picked up synthetic heavy duty diesel 15w-40 instead of the normal Rotella stuff." The diesel 15W-40 is *exactly* what you want, and it's what carries the JASMO MA spec. Once the oil is changed, I'd check to make sure the clutch is properly adjusted before condeming the...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Finally had the opportunity for a 50 mile lunch time ride. Rode up north on our famously flat and featureless roads to check out a restaurant/bar in the tiny farm town of Kempton Indiana. My neighor tagged along on his 09 Harley RoadKing. We ended up riding about 5 miles of gravel (leaving...

This is what I use, sadly they have gone up in price not insignificantly since I bought mine about 4 years ago...

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

I'm dealing with what I suspect is a half-dead igniter (lost signal to a coil) on my '81 850G so I'm following this with interest. I've got a second half-failed igniter on the bench that bwringer gave me to tinker with as well. I'm going to attempt to source a replacement transistor, I found...

Old Bike, new rider, same ol' problems - 1980 GS550E

Another thing to take a look at is a bench sync: making sure the throttle plates are exposing the pilot/idle holes evenly (also make sure they all flow well when you shoot some WD40 or something through them with some compressed air). That's to start, and then ideally a "real" sync with a quad...

Old Bike, new rider, same ol' problems - 1980 GS550E

Congrats on the 550! What is a "main jet seat?" As soon as I heard "amazon Carb kit" I'm quite suspicious. Did you use the jets in the kit? Sounds like you'll be taking the carbs back off. So it's idling on 3 cylinders and being ridden as such? I'd do some bench testing of the carbs with...

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but do I need to request to get my profile info updated to include being a current site supporter?

Save the Date: 2026 Brown County Indiana Rally - June 11-14, 2026

I keep dabbling in the "pirate" world (aka laid back cruiser with poor cornering clearance) myself. I've just really slowed my roll since starting a family, doubly so with another kiddo now. I'll more than likely be astride another Bandit 1200 this year but my pace will be leisurely. I barely...

    Fortnine review of GS 850

I'd buy something like 10... *maybe* 15%. What's a stick shift car typically lose on the dyno vs crank power? I'd think it'd be no more than that for a bike.

    Fortnine review of GS 850

That's just some funky color filter applied to the thumbnail. Bike in the video is more of a solid blue color. Also has black sidecovers, and some other aftermarket details like turn signals, seat cover, etc. I suspect a repaint

    Fortnine review of GS 850

I have a hard time believing the shaft drive power losses are as large as were claimed in this video. Isn't the original host a trained engineer?

ISO: stock 750/850/1000/1100 E/G "standard" US handlebar

Well, the Emgo bar that showed up from Dennis Kirk was a fair bit off in terms of dimensions relative to the specs in the online description (shorter and less pullback by an inch or so in both dimensions). JDXC I will send you a private message if you would entertain the thought of selling and...

    81 GS1100E brake hoses.

I've used Galfer lines twice, once on my 81 GS1100E, one set on my '78 XS1100E, had good luck with them. Most recently, for my '79 XS1100F, at bwringer's suggestion I drove down with my old lines to Earl's (local in Indianapolis in Speedway). Got three custom braided lines made up with black...

ISO: stock 750/850/1000/1100 E/G "standard" US handlebar

Hi JDXC, I've got a color matched windjammer and mounting bracket/wiring etc. I ended up ordering a bar off of Dennis Kirk (nominally for a Honda hawk/Magna) with dimensions that *should* be very very close to a US market GS bar. I'd be curious to hear, what were your impressions of the...

ISO: stock 750/850/1000/1100 E/G "standard" US handlebar

Hi all, I'm hoping someone has one of those "awful" tall stock US spec handlebars for a non-"L" GS laying around collecting dust, I have a set of superbike bars on the 850G but I'm wanting to reinstall a Vetter Windjammer fairing, and the taller handlebar to go with it. Thank you!

Back in the GS fold (a familiar '81 850G)

wazz is north of Indy a few hours, bwringer and I are both Indianapolis based (well, I'm just a few minutes north of Indy proper, out in the suburbs). With the baby right now there's no way I'd have the bandwidth to make a 4-5hr round trip, and it was an uncanny coincidence that Wazz was coming...

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

To follow up on this event, I did end up riding out from Indy on my '79 XS1100F and meeting up with my brother, who rode out from PA on his '79 XS750F. It was a really fun event. I had the "luxury" of camping out on my friend's property, who lives right down the road from the track. Kept me a...

Back in the GS fold (a familiar '81 850G)

Two summers ago I sold off my remaining boxes of gs bits, swayed by the rubber-mounted mid-range wallop of Yamaha XS1100s. I did end up buying another gen 1 Bandit 1200 last spring, it seems my life is just incomplete without one of those things. In a fit of downsizing, I sold my last XS1100...

Back in the "sort of" GS Suzuki fold: '98 Bandit 1200S

31k miles on this 98. Now sporting a mellower, more period correct looking oval Delkevic can. Really impressed with the quality of the exhaust for the money. Just finished some winter maintenance on it (valve adjustment and new top end gaskets, back the cam chain tensioner out one more tooth...
