A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

2008 Yamaha FJR AE, gonna sell for a friend. Or keep?

My friend had some left wrist damage, so the automatic clutch was good for him. Now he's onto a Gold Wing. I'm not a big tourer like he is, but years ago I had a Venture Royale for a short time, just to make some money. It was pretty nice, and a bit of a hot rod for such a tank. I took my then...

2008 Yamaha FJR AE, gonna sell for a friend. Or keep?

A friend asked me to help sell his 2008 Yamaha FJR AE, always liked those but I'm not sure it'll fit me well at 6'4", we'll see soon. It's got 27K miles on it and is in very nice condition. The deal is anything over a surprisingly low dollar amount, I keep. Now of course I am hoping it fits me...

    1974 Laverda 3C

Going through wiring, some things to correct, takes time, but gotta get it right. I moved the Voxbell horns up under the headlight, technically a later mod. They moved around on the Laverdas. Mine were originally on a bracket connected to the oil cooler, but that caused cracks, so I read. They...

    1974 Laverda 3C

Down to the last bits of polishing, only the main engine side covers to do. I figured that getting the technique down pat on other parts was best, then really do a good job on the covers. Maybe too much bling on the levers, but they can acquire patina when I quit polishing and start riding...

    1980 or 1982 GS1100E--Which Would You Choose?

The earlier style is like a box truck to me. The rectangular headlight and shroud, meh. Busy around the seat with grab rail and shiny strips under seat. The 82/83 copied the Katana cues, nicely done. Plus the big train headlight is cool. Pegs are up high on the 82/83 IMO. But we know what...

    1974 Laverda 3C

Front end nearly done, just need to get the tach crimped, speedo is done. I got the headlight ears chromed and bought new shrouds that they mount to on the upper fork tubes. I should have had mine chromed as the ones I had done are better. Oh well, future task if I care to. Very tedious to get...

    Vacuum Tires?

It's a clumsy translation from Chinese. There is nothing different about the tire except the word chosen to describe it.

    Vacuum Tires?

    I hear they suck

    1974 Laverda 3C

I installed the rear wheel today. A bit fiddly with brake linkage but got it done. Shinko 712s, they are fine for me, I've been using them on my GSs, I can't tell any difference between them and the 2x more expensive alternatives. Nice to still be able to find a bargain tire that performs well...

    1974 Laverda 3C

Got my tires mounted. The tool made it easy to mount the front, but the rear was a real chore. Shinko 712, they do the job, and there are very few alternatives out there. Bridgestone BT46 are 2x as much, and 110 or 120/90-18 rears were out of stock wherever I looked. Avon is another possibility...

    1974 Laverda 3C

To avoid pinching tubes, which, despite my best efforts, still happens on occasion, I got a Baja Designs no-pinch tool. It's a game changer. They are advertised for dirt bikes, but it works for any wheel over 18". Of the 4 bikes I have, 7 of the wheels are 18" or over, and 4 run tubes - only the...

    Petcock wanted

Good tip. At $14.20 on Amazon, it's probably best, as they can get brittle with age. I think I have one I'm not using it if Big T doesn't want to go that route.

    1974 Laverda 3C

Thanks for that - I spoke to a fellow in Canada yesterday at Columbia Car & Cycle in Naksup B.C. of all places, he's the Laverda guru and has rare parts. He has one. I think it's 3D printed by the guy in the UK who won't ship. It's a high-quality 3D printed repro done with proper materials on a...

    1974 Laverda 3C

Frustration, originated by my own carelessness, spilled out. Don't want to start a 'T' word discussion, that's been done to death.

    1974 Laverda 3C

I am in a bind with the plastic throttle tube - I inadvertently damaged it, it may work, but I'm not sure, so I want to replace it. Turns out it is shared with early-mid 70's Suzuki GT250 (X6 Hustler), GT380, and GT550, until 74 (I think). It is a rare piece. Of course. There is a guy in the UK...

    81 GS1100E brake hoses.

I've done that before with Earls lines. I don't see the metric fittings I need in their catalog. it's AN -3 stuff except one single M10 x 1.0 fitting listed for their speed flex hose. I will give them a call. Hard to imagine they won't have them.

    81 GS1100E brake hoses.

One thing I've done in the past when short on $ - looked up the length and fitting type and bought 'standard' EPDM hoses that were for a car. I got a set of 3 of Raybestos rubber hoses once for $30 at Rock Auto, when a set of stainless would have cost over $200 and would need to be custom made...

    81 GS1100E brake hoses.

You are right, good update. I wanted some hoses for my Laverda, and they are listed, but not available.

    1974 Laverda 3C

Carbs are done, new atomizers and needles, floats, needle valves & seats, and other wear parts replaced, fully rebuilt and they should be fine. Some remove the accelerator pump; I figured that there's nothing wrong with it, leave it in. There is some fine-tuning of the diaphragms via lock...

    Martha Stewart: mechanical advisor.

When it's a steel bolt into an aluminum thread (especially), there is one thing that always works. Heat the aluminum, and put an ice cube on the steel. Shrinkage! Works for steel/steel of course. I don't give a RAT's about Martha Stewart and all the emotions the mention of her name may bring...
